        Renunciation and Freedom

        Survivial in the future

        by Jean-Pierre Wils

        The situation in our society is precarious. The ecological shocks are omnipresent. The mere continuation of our lifestyles fixated on expansion and self-development has long since reached its limits. As if intoxicated by ourselves, we consume our world voraciously and without restraint. We need moderation and frugality that lead us out of the ecological and social dead ends and hold both the individual and Politics to account. We are by no means powerless and are perfectly capable of leading a life that offers prospects for a humane future. However, our idea of freedom needs urgent correction. For this endeavour to succeed, we need the courage to face reality and the willingness, in a spirit of solidarity, to say goodbye to a false life and join the alliance of renunciation and freedom. Then we will be free – differently and better.

        Little Pea and the Sneaky Beast

        by Αsadollah Shabani

        Once upon a time, an old couple lived together. They had a good life but had no children. One day, when the old lady was cleaning a bowl of peas, she saw a tiny little girl named “Little Pea”. She wanted to be their daughter. Little Pea went to play outside, but she and her friends lost track of time and were far from home. This was the perfect opportunity for the beast to take them home and eat them. Do you think a tiny girl like Little Pea would be able to defeat a giant beast? “Little Pea and the Sneaky Beast” is an Old Iranian folktale that concentrates on the true potentials and abilities of children regardless of any factors. Little Pea is tiny and different, but that by no means is enough reason that she wouldn’t be able to defeat even the biggest threats! AWARDS & RECOGNITION: Image of the Books Winner, Russia 2020

LelyaCould be there anything more frightening than when The Bald Man and The Barefoot come to the village? Who steals magic stuff from kids? How to transform yourself into a flying old witch whose name is Baba Yaga? Where does the last way of the werewolves end? You will find the exciting answers to all these questionsin this new novel about the adventures of Lelya, The Bald Man and their friends in horrible world where almost nothing good and bright left…But there is no other world! Book III. AN ENGINEER. Looks like we have already found out what is that evil Force that wants to destroy all people and all living creatures on the Earth but nobody knows how to overcome it. The Bald Man proposed a plan, which looked so hopeless, terrifying, and adventurous that nobody liked it - nor Marichka, neither Lelya or The Beard Man, but yet all our heroes and even the rooster named Falkon agree to participate and to help. It is scary even to imagine how the story might end. And yet – where did this dark underground Force came from? Why is it so hostile to everything alive? The answers to these questions probably are hidden in the fate of another character, who called himself an Engineer. The last book of a trilogy “Through the forest. Across the sky. On the water” is as full of fantastic adventures and adventure fiction as the two previous ones: “The Bald Man” and “Lelya”.

        Regional politics in Russia

        by Cameron Ross

        This innovative, multi-contributed book, now available in paperback, argues convincingly that Russia will never be able to create a viable democracy as long as authoritarian regimes are able to flourish in the regions. The main themes covered are democratisation at the regional level, and the problems faced by the federal states in forging viable democratic institutions in what is now a highly assymetrical Federation. A major strength of the book lies in its combination of thematic chapters with case studies of particular regions and republics. Very little has been published to date on the actual processes of democratisation in particular republics and regions. The book takes into account the literature available on the 'new institutionalism' and outlines the importance of institutions in developing and maintaining democracy. It looks at the importance of sovereignty, federalism and democratic order, and considers the distinct problems of party-building in Russia's regions. Electoral politics are also considered fully, before the book goes on to consider the whole issue of regional politics and democratisation in five particular areas of Russia - Novgorod, the Komi Republic, Russia's Far East, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan. The authors, the majority of whom are internationally recognised experts in their field, have been drawn from Britain, the USA, Russia and Germany, giving the book a truly global perspective. ;

        The Rabbit and the Snail

        by Li Donghua, Zou Xiaoping

        The Rabbit and the Snail, an original picture book with a touch of philosophical temperament, tells of the diverse choices made toward life by the traveler rabbit and the botanist snail. The fast-running rabbit is able to embrace the width of life, while the slowly-moving snail experiences the depth of it; the two form a delightful contrast. The rabbit is capable of reaching a distant place, while the snail can spend its whole life on a morning glory that is close at hand. They not only reap the joy of success in their skilled fields but also appreciate a completely different way of life from their own.
