This book traces the career of Roy Ward Baker, one of the great survivors of the British film and television industry. He directed the landmark British film Morning Departure (1949), worked at Twentieth Century Fox in Hollywood in the early 1950s where he directed Marilyn Monroe's 'breakthrough' film (Don't Bother to Knock), and followed this with a succession of fine films for Rank, culminating in the best version of the Titanic disaster, A Night to Remember in 1958. Yet within three years he was unable to secure a job in the British film industry and he moved to television series such as The Avengers, The Saint and Minder. Later Baker re-emerged as a major director of science-fiction (Quatermass and the Pit) and horror films (Asylum). Geoff Mayer provides an industrial and aesthetic context in which to understand the interrelationship between a skilled classical director and the transformation of the British film industry in the 1950s. ;

Der einzige Anhaltspunkt, den Detective Cathal Breen und seine Kollegin Helen Tozer haben: Sie muss ein Beatles-Fan gewesen sein. Ihre Ermittlungen führen die beiden vom Fan-Club der Fab Four zu einer Gerichtsverhandlung gegen John Lennon und zu George Harrisons Haus. Aber der wahre Grund, wieso das Mädchen sterben musste, ist viel tragischer, als sie es sich hätten träumen lassen.

Lines Written with the Green Pen

Lines Written with the Green Pen is a poem for children written by the famous children's literature writer Mei Zihan. It is about a boy trying to write poems with his green pen. At first, he doubts whether he can write poems. Then he takes a walk and starts creating his own lines—he says hello to the sky; he wonders about the leaves, birds’ chirping, the gone clouds, the old lady and the yellow dress… He, the “little ant poet”, writes, “Those who are dreaming are awake. Hence, the night and the day meet on the pillow.” In the end, he drops down his green pen and decides to fly and be the child as he is.

The book's central question is to what extent 'religion' and 'medicine' have overlapped or interrelated in various Asian societies. Collectively, the contributions explore a number of related issues, such as: which societies separated out religious from medical concerns, at which times and in what ways? Where have medicine and religion converged, and how has such knowledge been defined by scholars and cultural actors?
