Overview
Paul Zsolnay Verlag was founded in 1924 in Vienna. Its long tradition and prestigious reputation has secured its place as one of the leading publishing houses in the German speaking world. In 1996 Zsolnay Verlag was acquired by Carl Hanser Verlag in Munich, but has remained in Vienna and continues with its specialised focus on high quality fiction and non-fiction by contemporary Austrian authors as well as international writers in translation. Zsolnay Verlag has also an impressive backlist with the works by esteemed authors such as Leo Perutz, Graham Greene, John Steinbeck, or Colette. Following the noteworthy success of the novels by bestselling author Henning Mankell crime fiction has become another trademark of Zsolnay’s list.
In 2004 Zsolnay acquired Deuticke Verlag and has published contemporary authors such as Karl-Markus Gauß, Franzobel, Martin Pollack, Paulus Hochgatterer, André Heller, Konrad Paul Liessmann, Daniel Glattauer, Vladimir Vertlib, Michael Köhlmeier, Irene Diwiak and international authors such as Slavenka Drakulic, Mircea Cartarescu, Edmund de Waal, and many others.
