        Angelika Gundlach, geboren 1950 in Hamburg, lebte als freie Übersetzerin in Frankfurt am Main. Sie übertrug Texte aus dem Schwedischen, Dänischen, Norwegischen, Französischen und Englischen ins Deutsche. Gundlach starb am 18. August 2019 in Seligenstadt. *10.03.1911 geboren in Stockholm. 1930 Wehrdienst bei einem Infanterieregiment nach dem Besuch des privaten Sofie-Almqvist-Gymnasiums. Erkrankt schwer an einer Lungenentzündung. 1931 Studium der Geschichte und Philosophie in Stockholm, das er aber Studium auf Grund einer lebensbedrohenden Schwindsucht unterbrechen muß. Mehrere Sanatoriumsaufenthalte und lange Erholungsreisen durch Südeuropa folgen. 1934 Rückkehr nach Schweden. Seine erste Rezension und erste Gedichte wurden bereits 1933 in Schweden publiziert. Es folgen weitere Aufsätze, literaturwissenschaftliche Abhandlungen, Tagebuchblätter; Anthologien, Reiseberichte, Essays, Übersetzungen und Verse, etc. 1940-1951 Rezensent bei "Svenska Dagbladet". 1942-1950 Rezensent bei "Bonniers Litterära Magasin". 1944-1945 Redaktion "Samtid och Framtid". 1945-1947 Redaktion "Vintergatan". 1951 Habilitationsschrift. 1951-1960 Leitung der Kulturredaktion von "Dagens Nyheter". 1956 Auszeichnung mit dem Bellmann-Preis. 1960-1975 Chefredakteur von "Dagens Nyheter". Die Zahl seiner Publikationen bricht mit dem Ende dieser Tätigkeit nicht ab. 1964 Auszeichnung mit dem Literaturpreis des Nordischen Rates. 1970 erhielt er eine Einladung für einen längeren Aufenthalt in der Volksrepublik China, über den er in seiner Zeitung berichtete. 23.07.02 stirbt im Alter von 91 Jahren in Drottningholm (Schweden).

        Tourism offers countless global locations, providing a multitude of sensory experiences. These include commercialised tourism products such as saunas and floatation tanks through to natural phenomenon such as mountains and wilderness destinations. Consequently, sensory elements are a curious concept within tourism because every destination provides a sensory experience of one kind or another. The first of its kind, this book examines holidays and tourism through sensory perceptions which either encourage or deter consumers. It studies sensoryscapes and how they effect and affect tourism at destinations and be linked with the development of tourist niches, reflecting the segmenting of the mass market tourism into smaller segments. Finally, it reflects on how with increased urbanisation there a growing need is to find quiet spaces, free from urban or anthropogenic noise, such as silent retreats and dark sky meditation holidays.         This book is the first to explore three visual media in contemporary Spain: cinema, television and the internet. It also examines cultural products in each of these media in terms of three vital themes: emotion, location and nostalgia. The first two chapters focus on emotion. They analyze the 'emotional imperative' in a recent Almodóvar feature film and in Spanish television's top-rated period drama, and investigate the politics of affect in TV drama in the last decade. The next pair of chapters deal with location. They use cultural geography to re-read contradictory accounts of the movida (the post-Franco cultural boom) and examine an attempt to anchor a US-derived genre (the youth movie) in the urban landscape of Madrid. The fifth and sixth chapters introduce the theme of location into nostalgia. They treat the unique cases of a successful Spanish heritage movie and a contemporary Spanish thriller remade in Hollywood. The peunultimate chapter investigates electronic artists and the virtual universe, and the book ends with a look at the implications of Hispano-Mexican co-productions and the interconnectedness of economic and aesthetic cultural forms. ;

        Optical Manipulation of Pests and Beneficial Arthropods

        Arthropod pests, pollinators, and natural enemies of pests have a great economic importance to human health and food supply worldwide. Arthropods use optical cues to find food and suitable oviposition sites, daily and seasonal activities, orientation and navigation. Most arthropods have compound eyes with receptors for UV light (peak sensitivity at 360 nm) and for green-yellow light (peak sensitivity at 520-540 nm). Many arthropods also have simple eyes (ocelli) that respond to changes in light intensity. Some arthropods can detect linearly polarized light and use it as an optical cue for oviposition sites, finding of hosts and navigation.The properties of the optical cue, such as wavelength, intensity, polarization, size, shape and contrast, greatly affect their response to the optical cue. Therefore, manipulation of optical cues can interfere or enhance arthropods' activities and development. UV light has been used to attract insects for monitoring and control. The patterns of UV reflected from flowers and plants affect arthropods' preference to visit them. The absence of UV light often deters arthropods and decreases their dispersal rate. UVB induces general stress in plants which may increase their resistance to arthropod pests. Green-yellow color induces landing and favors settling (arresting) of many plant feeding arthropods. High levels of reflected sunlight (above 25% of sun radiation) deters arthropods' landing and reduces settling. The recent use of monochromatic lights to increase crop yield, or to induce desirable plant characteristics, is expected to affect the activity of the associated arthropds as well. Optical manipulations are proposed as a part of an integrated pest management (IPM) program for open-field and protected crops, and for protecting the health of humans and domestic animals. This book contains up-to-date reviews of the published literature, some unpublished results of the authors, and suggestions for future research and development of this method.

        Cinematic ethnography proposes an interdisciplinary approach to theories and practices at the intersection of art, anthropology and cinema. The book proposes a model of collective aesthetics and collaborative filmmaking, going beyond the straightforward representation of reality that is so prevalent in visual anthropology and film studies. This book explores the practices of filmmakers who utilise sensory collaborative approaches to convey diversity of knowledge. It affirms that the more we allow cinema to infuse audio-visual transmissions of reality, the more we might be able to experience the evoked reality. The book proposes a dialogic journey, inviting the reader to pause during the reading of the book to watch some of the author's films, which exemplify the discussed theories and practices. This innovative work from a practising filmmaker and visual anthropologist invites us to rethink how our cinematic practices, rather than aiming at factual representation and description, might instead contribute to a collaborative understanding of intercultural dialogue and shared knowledge.         The Discovery of a Visual System - The Honeybee

        This book is the only account of what honeybees actually see. Bees detect some visual features such as edges and colours, but there is no sign that they reconstruct patterns or put together features to form objects. Bees detect motion but have no perception of what it is that moves, and certainly they do not recognize "things" by their shapes. Yet they clearly see well enough to fly and find food with a minute brain. Bee vision is therefore relevant to the construction of simple artificial visual systems, for example for mobile robots. The surprising conclusion is that bee vision is adapted to the recognition of places, not things. In this volume, Adrian Horridge also sets out the curious and contentious history of how bee vision came to be understood, with an account of a century of neglect of old experimental results, errors of interpretation, sharp disagreements, and failures of the scientific method. The design of the experiments and the methods of making inferences from observations are also critically examined, with the conclusion that scientists are often hesitant, imperfect and misleading, ignore the work of others, and fail to consider alternative explanations. The erratic path to understanding makes interesting reading for anyone with an interest in the workings of science but particularly those researching insect vision and invertebrate sensory systems.
