      • Studies in comparative federalism. Argentina, The United States and Mexico.

        by Antonio María Hernández.

Comparing the federalism of Argentina with that of the United States, which was its model, and with that of Mexico, which, like the Argentine, is Latin American, is a complex and difficult challenge, for many reasons, starting with the breadth and depth of the different historical, juridical, political, economic, cultural, and social situations that must be analyzed. Chapter I explains the conceptual and methodological underpinning of this study, beginning with some theoretical concepts of federalism and of the classification of federal political systems, to be able to accurately characterize our object of study. This is the reason for the greater length of Chap. II, comparing the federalism of Argentina with that of the United States, where we devote our attention to that important debate and other cultural, institutional, and political aspects in which we differ. Finally, Chap. III compares Argentina with Mexico, a country with which we have greater historical, political, and cultural similarities, being part of Latin America.

        El Talón de Hierro

        by Jack London

        by Luisa Rendina, Antonio Cecere

The revolutionary season of the "Primavera dei Popoli" would have been decisive for the Risorgimento’s mission. The liberal opening and the first parliamentary apprenticeship started the progressive disintegration of the Pre-unification States and a first consequent nationalization of the Italian space. Nonetheless, the 1848 also coincided with the conquest of public space: the proliferation and diffusion of newspapers concurred to radically modify revolutionary practice and, in many cases, to superimpose political militancy on journalistic militancy.Ferdinando Petruccelli della Gattina, Lucan, spearhead of the radical-democratic group, would have founded the most widely read, most widespread and most "guarded" newspaper of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies: «Il Mondo Vecchio e il Mondo Nuovo».

        Nosotros, Colombia… Comunicación, paz y (pos)conflicto

by Sergio Roncallo-Dow, Juan David Cárdenas Ruiz, Juan Carlos Gómez Giraldo

Peace seems to have been elusive in Colombian history. The ups and downs in the negotiation processes, the unfulfilled promises, and the political polarization have made Colombia a nation in a state of continuous crisis and that, in spite of itself - to take up the old Bushnell phrase - has managed to stay afloat and, above all, do not lose hope for a stable and lasting peace.   There have been numerous attempts to build it and they seem to have been unsuccessful, especially because a good part of the collective representation that we have of them has been built from the media apparatus that, in the case of our country, has been at the service of power and that it has resulted in skepticism that, especially since the 1990s, has tended to transform into a strong polarization. With this book, we want not only to think about peace and (post) conflict from communication but to remind (us), once again, that we can still be we.

        Teologia dell’ospitalità

        by Marco, Dal Corso (ed.)

A hospitable practice needs hospitable thinking and a way of believing. If, before being a right, existing is a debt that is extinguished only by becoming hospitable people, theology is called to favour coexistence among people by overcoming even its own self-understanding, when this is an obstacle to dialogue, helping to live this great change, and learning to welcome the spiritual riches that are for all. This, to the point of making a public contribution at the service of human and spiritual growth of humanity. A research of great value for a hospitable belief, which gives a theological foundation to a new paradigm of welcome and which opens up concrete perspectives for the indispensable interreligious dialogue.

        The Heart of Cocoa

        500 Years of Chocolate History

        by Napoleone Neri

The temptation par excellence, that craving that suddenly arises and we cannot fight it unless we satisfy it: the desire for chocolate. Perhaps it is because of this power that it is called the most loved food on the planet. Or perhaps it is because its cultivation, production and consumption - which has been growing strongly in the last 10 years - are spread across all continents. Napoleon Neri tells its story, starting with the plant and its fruit, from the pioneers of chocolate, to the birth of confectionery factories in the 19th century and then the great modern industries. He describes in detail the processing and transformation of cocoa beans, their beneficial properties, the sensory characteristics of the finished product, and spices everything up with a thousand anecdotes and curiosities that only those who have lived and worked in this world for so long can know.
