        In accordance with § 7 German Ordinanceon the Operation of a Pharmacy

        by Dr. Andreas S. Ziegler

        The Ordinance on the Operation of a Pharmacy states that a plausibility check must be undertaken for each new formulation. The tabular compilations of this book help pharmacists to complete this task quickly and reliably. All the information required for the check is clearly laid out and easy to find. New in the 6th edition: Many new active substance – ointment base combinations with demonstrated compatibility | more than 50 new ointment bases | 30 new active substances Bonus: The information about standard doses for paediatric dermatology enables pharmacists to also prepare paediatric formulations. | References to the Ziegler Rezepturbibliothek® (Ziegler Formulation Library), where completely formulated manufacturing instructions for the named active substance – ointment base – combinations can be found. This makes it even easier to supply patients with tested standard preparations. The set includes 50-sheet pads of the complementary form Plausibility Check. The form makes documentation easier and enables rapid and reliable navigation through the tables. This allows both the prescriber’s treatment concept and also possible incompatibilities to be checked in less than no time.

        Small Animal Veterinary Psychiatry

        by Sagi Denenberg, Ali Thompson

        Problem behaviours are often the result of how an animal thinks and feels, genetics, and environmental influences. Steering away from just description diagnoses and focusing instead on emotional and cognitive causes, this book provides a practical approach to diagnosing, treating, and managing behaviour pathologies in dogs and cats. Beginning by addressing cases in the first opinion practice, this book then considers physical disorders that may lead to or exacerbate abnormal behavior. From there, the focus shifts to mental and emotional health, from an assessment of normal behavior and giving juveniles an optimal start in life, to diagnosing mental and emotional disorders, addressing emotions such as anxiety and frustration, and how to manage these issues - by modifying behavior, managing the animal's environment, training, and, when necessary, the use of medications. The second half of the book then addresses owner concerns, including management problems, aggression, affective disorder, elimination disorder, abnormal and repetitive behaviours and ageing-related problems. With an emphasis on helping first line veterinarians identify common presentations and offer help to owners, this book: - Addresses both normal and abnormal behaviour in cats and dogs from an emotion and cognition perspective; - Provides behaviour modification protocols, and drug doses and indications; - Includes handouts to be used both within the practice and with clients to help the veterinary surgeon manage the case. Written by international experts, the book translates their insights and experience into approaches taken in behavioural medicine. Also including the most up-to-date drugs, it is an important resource for both small animal veterinarians and students of veterinary medicine or animal behaviour.

      • Challenges in Sun Protection

        by Christian Surber, Uli Osterwalder

        In the early 20th century, tanned skin was associated with good health. However, people began to protect themselves against potential overexposure to avoid sunburns. Around 1945, the first sunscreen products became available. In the years to follow, a vast number of different sunscreen filters and frameworks regulating filter substances and preparations, and methods characterizing sunscreen products were developed. The perception regarding the tasks of sunscreen products changed several times – initially it was promoted as a lifestyle product, then as a skin cancer preventive means, and more recently also for anti-aging. Different purposes and the widespread use of these products have led to myriad studies and a wealth of information. In this volume, the editors present a current collection of information analyzing and discussing issues related to sunscreen products and their use. These include challenges regarding the ideal sunscreen product including filter selection and formulation issues, measurement methods, performance characterization, safety, and regulatory issues. Further papers address topics related to the use of sunscreen products in everyday life, in vulnerable cohorts and outdoor workers. Controversial topics such as environmental effects of sunscreen products and the risks and benefits of UV radiation in the context of skin cancer, vitamin D and cardiovascular and metabolic health are also covered.

        Fast Facts: Diagnosing Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma

        by Haun, Julia Scarisbrick

        Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is one of the ‘great mimickers’. To be certain of the diagnosis, there must be clear correlation between the pathological and clinical findings, making collaboration between clinicians and pathologists essential. Knowing the patient's history, lesion description and diagnostic work-up will help the pathologist make a more informed decision with respect to the histopathology under the microscope. Likewise, understanding the terminology used in the pathology report will improve the clarity of the clinician’s diagnosis. Fast Facts: Diagnosing Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma is designed to help primary care providers, dermatologists and pathologists speak the same language. With over 100 superb clinical and pathological images, this concise, practical handbook will ensure clear communication with respect to the clinical presentation, histopathology and immunophenotyping of: early and advanced mycosis fungoides and its variants Sézary syndrome other non-mycosis fungoides CTCLs. It is therefore essential reading for all pathologists, non-specialist clinicians and dermatology trainees. ;

        Fast Facts: Acne

        by Alison M Layton, Diane Thiboutot, Vincenzo Bettoli

        Acne is one of the ten most common diseases worldwide and is the inflammatory skin disease seen most frequently by community physicians and dermatologists. Over the last decade, knowledge of acne pathophysiology and etiologic factors has expanded, resulting in the development of novel treatments that target clinical lesions and improve patient outcomes. However, the vast number of therapeutic options that are now available can pose a challenge to the prescribing clinician selecting the preferred treatment. Fast Facts: Acne is primarily aimed at family practitioners, nurse prescribers, pharmacists and dermatology trainees. This fully updated edition provides a concise overview of the clinical features of acne, reviews available treatments – including their respective modes of action and potential adverse events – and advises on treatment selection with the implicit goal of minimizing the physical and emotional scarring associated with this challenging disease. It also discusses the use of antibiotics and, given current concerns regarding overprescribing and antibiotic resistance, this highly readable resource is a timely addition to the Fast Facts series. ;
