Burleigh Dodds Subliscience Publishing was established in 2015 by former staff at the award-winning Woodhead Publishing. Our vision is to help solve one of the world’s greatest challenges: to feed the world’s growing population. There is an urgent need for a more climate-smart agriculture able to feed a growing population whilst, at the same time, adapting to (and not exacerbating) climate change. Our goal is to build collections of research on key topics in agricultural science so that researchers can build on existing work and collaborate more effectively. We are achieving this by using ’smart-publishing’ to help achieve ’climate-smart’ agriculture.

It tells the story of how artists have grappled with the increasingly intangible and self-referential nature of money, from the South Sea Bubble to our current crisis. Show me the money sets out the history and politics of representations of finance through five essays by academic experts and curators, and is interspersed with provocative think pieces by notable public commentators on finance and art. The book, and the exhibition on which it is based, explore a wide range of images, from satirical eighteenth-century prints by William Hogarth and James Gillray to works by celebrated contemporary artists such as Andreas Gursky and Molly Crabapple. It also charts the development of an array of financial visualisations, including stock tickers and charts, newspaper illustrations, bank adverts and electronic trading systems.

“This book is a ferment.” It gathers the stories of seven plants and the experiences of a group of women who cultivated their relationship with them during a deep study process. Their encounter produced a system that weaves analogies between the body itself and how non-human people relate, whether they are plants, animals, fungi, places in the territory, or telluric forces. Each text reveals the hunger, wounds, and poisons of the person who studies and offers intimacy and work, as well as secrecy and witchcraft.“In some traditions of the Amazonian foothills and the highlands, dry corn is chewed and spit into a ceramic bowl when preparing chicha. Then water and panela are added; the mixture rests in a cool place where direct sunlight does not reach, waiting for fermentation to begin....] In certain places, on the occasion of mingas or some collective agreement, everyone prepares chicha. The people present chew and spit into the bowl. This is how the will to come together is declared and embodied. Each family or person takes home a part of the seed and asks for what the collective body and the agreement need: more material or sweetness, lightness or firmness. The chicha speaks and often says what people don't.

The three men embodied different ideologies: Zahir is an elder who depicts the conservative society, Syed is a progressive man trapped in the dust of modernity, while Ake is a 90s guy preoccupied with anarchy. They became part of a new community that struggles to survive while adapting to modernity. Unwittingly, these three men are sucked into the vortex of reformation which shaped Malaysia’s modern history. Tales of their daily lives are often ignored and forgotten by history; much like the frothy waves that eventually disappeared after crashing against the shores.
