        by Perry Brass

Gay Fiction Futurist Fiction. BISAC number: FIC011000 A white-knuckle suspense story set in the year 2075, the distant yet close-enough future, when constant corporate + government surveillance is Standard Operating Procedure. Endless war and endless “security” punch their way through individual lives. And your job level will determine exactly if and how you live and die. In a glittering city in a very internationalized Germany, Jeffrey Cooper, Alabama-born design star, has made a pact with the Devil himself. No matter what age he is, the mega-Corporation running the world will keep him looking movie-star young and handsome. Cooper has left his past, his history and heart behind. But they will catch up with him when he meets a handsome young Dutchman who offers him his real soul back—but with even a higher price than the Corporation is making him pay. A perfect tale for the age of Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency, and a world business culture in which many gay men have taken key roles and given up so much of themselves in return. Carnal Sacraments is a book you won’t put down until the very end. This new edition has a Foreword by the author and a biographical sketch of cover artist, the recently rediscovered German Symbolist artist Sasha Schneider. What happens when you’re caught in the cross hairs of an all-seeing international government corporation? And Then They Ruined Everything

Book Two in the Death of Rock 'n' Roll Series

        by Duncan Milne

Every action has a reaction. Every reaction has a consequence. Every consequence creates a memory. Having overcome the impossibility of time travel, Kenneth Ramsayer and his best friend exist to relive past rock ’n’ roll gigs. Everything is going well; they’ve become heroes, they’ve discovered love, they had the world by the tail, and then they ruined everything. Based on what is left of their ruined music collections, it appears that rock ’n’ roll died in 1984. Their unassailable knowledge of music, leads the boys to recall that in 1984 an unknown patron made a bootleg recording of a Replacements gig. This cassette was recovered and became the live album “The Shit Hits The Fans”. The history of rock ‘n’ roll was forever changed. Now in a viciously evil plot, a thief has absconded with the recording. But what if the death of rock ’n’ roll isn’t connected to the missing cassette? Seeking help from unlikely sources and following fading memories, the boys travel across America in a bid to save rock ’n’ roll. An intelligent satire, the second novel in the Death of Rock ’n’ Roll series, “And Then They Ruined Everything” cleverly uses the concept of time travel in a rock ’n’ roll setting as an examination of choices and the power of art in society.

The power that digital corporations in Silicon Valley exert is astronomical, and this poses a serious threat to democracy and independence as we know them.Paul Nemitz and Matthias Pfeffer present an impressive analysis of how current attempts to implement an ethical regulation of Artificial Intelligence are too shortsighted and limited. The authors provide a detailed examination of this topic, concentrating specifically on the role being played by the public sphere and the threats posed against journalism in the digital age. They call for a strict regulation of Artificial Intelligence and a reconceptualization of the principles that define humanity, which must be defended against the principles of the

Comparative Media Policy, Regulation and Governance in Europe - Chapter 10

Chapter 10: Media and Democracy: A Couple Walking Hand in Hand?

        by Trappel, Josef

For functioning well, the media need democracy as much as democracy needs the media. This is the starting point of this analysis of the delicate relation between the news media and democracy which is well defined in constitutional terms both in the European Convention on Human Rights and in national legislation. The relation is best described as social contract – to the benefit of freedom of speech and editorial independence, but also to sound governance of the state and other powerholders in society. Notably, different models of democracy correspond to different roles of the media. In any case, however, media policy is requested to respect media freedom. The Internet, as well as social and networked media require policy answers to challenges such as data protection, content blocking and surveillance. The authors conclude that media policy tools need to be developed along the all-digital media future.
