THE SOUND OF AN EMPTY HEART

        by Graciela Mayrink

An anonymous message uniting two sad and lonely hearts: a singer and his fan. Gabriel Moura is a rock star at the peak of his career, after releasing an album well received by critics. He seems to have everything, but he hides himself in his room, tormented by manias that his mother put in his head. Fighting against OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), trying to overcome his obsessions and compulsions, he finds a forum about depression, where a fan shares his problems. When he feels connected to her, he begins to nurture a fixation for the girl and believes that it can help her end her sadness. Carolina is in her first year of college and is haunted by the ghost of a scandal at the end of high school. Her ex-boyfriend leaked an intimate photo of her on the Internet. Without parental support, she falls into depression, distances herself from her twin sister, and finds relief only by talking to strangers in an online forum. One day, she meets a fan of her idol on the internet who is also having problems, and the two of them start exchanging messages of support. Little does Carolina know that who is behind everything is the famous singer.

        The CBT Handbook

        by Catherine Evans-Jones

A comprehensive resource of photocopiable worksheets to aid therapeutic intervention. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) aims to help people overcome their emotional difficulties through helping them identify and change their thoughts and behaviour. CBT has been evaluated for a wide range of presenting problems and evidence of its efficacy found for depression, panic, agoraphobia, generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), specific phobia, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This eminently practical book provides more than 80 A4 photocopiable worksheets for cognitive behavioural therapists to use with clients. As well as covering the fundamental techniques of CBT, it supplies worksheets specific to presenting problems, such as OCD, panic and worry. Worksheets are essential tools in CBT. They record events and patterns, provide new information, and suggest new ways of thinking and acting. When and how to use a worksheet is determined by a number of factors: the formulation, the stage in therapy, the current focus of treatment, the reading and writing ability of the client and the wishes of the client. The use of worksheets in CBT is an ongoing learning process for both therapists and clients. This is a fantastic resource for all clinicians working within the cognitive behavioural model.

        Zero O'Clock

        by C.J. Farley

In early March 2020 in New Rochelle, New York, teenager Geth Montego is fumbling with the present and uncertain about her future. She only has three friends: her best friend Tovah, who’s been acting weird ever since they started applying to college; Diego, who she wants to ask to prom; and the K-pop band BTS, because the group always seems to be there for her when she needs them (at least in her head). She could use some help now. Geth’s small city becomes one of the first COVID-19 containment zones in the US. As her community is upended by the virus and stirred up by the growing Black Lives Matter protests, Geth faces a choice and a question: Is she willing to risk everything to fight for her beliefs? And if so, what exactly does she believe in? C.J. Farley captures a moment in spring 2020 no teenager will ever forget. It sucks watching the world fall apart. But sometimes you have to start from zero.

        The Cocoa Cult

        by Guðrún Brjánsdóttir

A brilliant, toe curling, insightful, humorous snapshot of our time by prizewinning author.   ABOUT THE PLOT   Hjalti suffers from a broken heart. And from anxiety. And from OCD and obsessive thinking. Ever since his girlfriend Anna left him he's been feeling incredible low and hasn't been able to turn his situation around. He hasn't had a good night's sleep in weeks.   When he walks upstairs to complain about some noise, he's invited to take part in a healing ceremony in a so-called cocoa club. Eventhough Hjalti thinks it sounds rather silly, he's so desperate to feel better that he decides to tag along.    The intense pure cocoa from Guatemala has a suprisingly positive effect on Hjalti, and he spontanously decides to join the cocoa club for a healing trip to the most remote part of Iceland. In the breathtakenly beautiful national park between glaciers and sand plains, Hjalti realises that the domineering leader of the cocoa club doesn't think that the rules of the national park apply to them, and the cocoa club members soon fall out with each other as well as the local park rangers.    Hjalti is up for a completely different experience than he was expecting.   In THE COCOA CULT, author Gudrún Brjánsdóttir dissects her own time with dark humour, affection, insigth and toe curling accuracy. The protagonist Hjalti is self-centred, climate guilty, overthinking, OCD striken, anxious, pleasing, passive and conflict-averse - but you still can't help rooting for him. He's just searching for the capricious, flickering love as so many others.

In a faraway future, Kelsey Zellar is starting her senior year at yet another school thanks to her twin sister’s troublesome obsession with outlawed virtual reality games. Every school they’ve ever attended is pretty much the same: lunchroom drama, rich kids binging on enhancement candies, and classmates rallying for or against the government’s strict control over everything from entertainment privileges to caffeine consumption. PISA Under Examination

Changing Knowledge, Changing Tests, and Changing Schools

        by Pereyra, M. A.

From the 23rd to 26th of November 2009 in La Palma island, in the Canaries, the Comparative Education Society in Europe (CESE) organized an international symposium entitled PISA under Examination: Changing Knowledge, Changing Tests, and Changing Schools. During four days seventeen leading scholars of Europe and America presented their contributions to debate the different problematiques of the remarkable phenomenon represented by the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment or PISA. PISA is not merely an educational event. It is also a media circus which involves the public rehearsal for reasons for failure or success; and even, in some cases, public and political and academic explanations about why 'failure' was not really that, and why 'success' was not really that either. At the centre of all these indications, we find the growing influence of international agencies on education and schooling which is decisively contributing to a marketisation of the field of education, in the context of an increasingly multilevel and fragmented arena for educational governance based on the formulation, the regulation and the transnational coordination and convergence of policies, buttressed at the same time by the diffusion of persuasive discursive practice. Organized in four sections entitled The Comparative Challenges of the OCDE PISA Programme, PISA and School Knowledge, The Assessment of PISA, School Effectiveness and the Socio-cultural Dimension, PISA and the Immigrant Student Question, and Extreme Visions of PISA: Germany and Finland, the contributions of this book offers a comprehensive approach of all these challenging and significant issues written from different and distinct research and academic traditions.
