Waffen SS Britain
by Paul Hurley
Description
The novel comprises well researched fact and plausible fiction, carefully interwoven to form an alternative and frightening history.
It is a military tale, not just a war story, it is a thriller and love story based on the premise that in 1940 Germany invaded Britain! It is written factually until the point where the allies reach Dunkirk. The cream of the allied armies are then trapped and imprisoned! The Germans invade Britain successfully.
In the summer of 1940, Churchill stood virtually alone in his refusal to surrender whilst facing almost certain defeat. In reality, if Britain had surrendered in that summer of 1940 the European war would have ended. Quite possibly no Pearl Harbour and no Italian or further Russian involvement, hostilities would have ceased worldwide. But what of the Holocaust, would that have gone ahead? The evidence suggests that under Hitler and the Nazis it would! The book is thought provoking and fictional.

Reviews
Though the idea is not new Mr. Hurley gives a decent new slant to the idea that we lose the war. At this particular time, with D Day being celebrated, when the Allies really began the defeat of Nazi Germany it is a salutary lesson to us all to read what could well have happened under only slightly different circumstances. We should be eternally grateful to the men and women of all nations who helped defeat the evil that was Nazi Germany. Mr. Hurley is to be applauded for writing a very thought provoking book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story revolves around a German officer and his relationship with a British woman. Britain has lost the war against Germany, and most of Europe is under German rule. I won't give away any of the plot, but suffice to say, it has many twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages well into the night. You won't know how it ends until you turn the very last page. I found it hard to find any faults with this book. It's very well written and researched. If you enjoy WWII history in any way, do yourself a favor and pick it up.

As a WWII baby, I was brought up under British post-war austerity but with thankful acceptance that the Allies had prevailed against the Nazis and the Japanese. However,my formative years were clouded by the thought of "what would have happened to us if..."
Paul Hurley's book, paints a stark picture of a defeated British population waking up to the realisation that all is not quite right in the new Germano-British relationship.
The story is set in post war Liverpool with the narrative focussing on the lives and interactions of the central characters, Ralf (a much decorated and promoted German officer),Felix (his close friend and comrade-in-arms)and Angela Mackin (a British Wren).
Using his knowledge of both the contemporary Liverpool scene and German military units and ranks, the author develops a story line that blends fictional characters with historical figures and facts, taking the reader on an emotional roller-coaster ride to a surprising conclusion.
A book to read, enjoy and reflect on....
