Compared to The Street of Huangniportraying the youth full of vigor and hope from urban underclass, the protagonists of the novel are a gang of young people from a small town. Ranging from 1950s till now, the novel has narrated the experience of those young people during “the Cultural Revolution” and Working in the Countryside and Mountainous Areas in a chronological way, and also told of their stories during the Reform and Opening-Up.
