The Complete Callaghan Tetralogy
by Kim Ekemar
Description
THE COMPLETE CALLAGHAN TETRALOGY thriller series consists of four books:
THE LOST IDENTITY CASUALTIES Coming out of a coma, Matthias Callaghan finds himself tied to a hospital bed, wrapped in bandages and suffering from amnesia. As he gradually recovers his memories, Callaghan discovers that he – in a case of mistaken identity – has been mutilated and subject to a full face transplant while being comatose. After being released from the hospital Callaghan spends months in solitary depression using his intelligence to plot his revenge on the five people who have caused him the loss of his identity and former privileged life. What he learns the hard way is that his revenge must encompass the Russian Mafia, a treacherous lawyer, his former business partner, the wife he recently has divorced and his estranged father.
WHERE THE BONES OF A BURIED RAT LIE After a second face transplant, Matthias Callaghan eases into a different life together with his new girlfriend Samantha. Not until too late does he realise that the Metropolitan police, the Russian Mafia’s legal adviser, a gangster boss named Flint and a group of swindled octogenarian ladies continue their attempts to confront the person they believe he is. The sudden reappearance of his ex-wife makes his life trickier still. Then, when his former business partner is released from prison, Callaghan is sued for millions. Hard pressed from all sides, Callaghan decides his only way out is to adopt one of his former identities and negotiate an assassination.
THE QUARRY AT THE CROSSROADS When he’s taken in for questioning by the police, Matthias Callaghan is faced with two options: to maintain the identity he has been obliged to adopt or to reveal his real one. For different reasons, in either case he risks going to prison and losing a fortune. Callaghan realises that he must flee Europe and decides to start a new life in Australia. After selling off everything he owns, he travels to USA to shake off any pursuers. Unknown to him, he’s followed by an assassin who catches up with him at a desert hotel, Callaghan changes his escape plan and crosses the border to Mexico. Unaware of the extent of the manhunt mounted to find him, he’s all of a sudden preyed upon by the FBI, Interpol, two competing drug cartels, a London gangster kingpin and the Russian Mafia.
THE TOLLBOOTH IN THE LABYRINTH Chased across the world by police and criminals alike, Matthias Callaghan eludes them by hiding in Australia. With his girlfriend Samantha, he starts a new life in the belief that he hasn’t left traces behind allowing Interpol, the Russian Mafia and a London gangster named Flint to find him. Six months later he finds out that he’s wrong. Once again on the run, he and Samantha escapes to Bali where they try to come to grips with Callaghan’s quandary. The pair settles on a daring plan to remove all threats to Callaghan’s existence and allow him to recover his true identity.

Reviews
"A London computer hacker, brutally tortured by the Russian Mafia when he is mistaken for his father, seeks revenge and personal renewal in The Complete Callaghan Tetralogy, Kim Ekemar's intricately plotted, character-rich, intercontinental thriller. The story's many plot threads are meticulously interlaced, and the pieces come together in a coherent conclusion. That's a considerable feat because there's a lot going on and many characters to keep track of.The writing is intelligent and sophisticated. Some plot twists are built on contrivance, such as when Matthias receives the transplanted face of a man he's never met but who played a key role in his wife's secret, troubled past. The action satisfyingly progresses in intensity until it culminates in a thrilling, global chase across the United States, Mexico, and Australia. The Complete Callaghan Tetralogy is a well-conceived tale for those who enjoy smart, complex, global intrigue." - Foreword Clarion Reviews
"The main character, Matthias, is brilliantly created. He is determined, calculating and clever; he concocts plans in which to see his enemies' downfall. There is no doubt in my mind that this book receives the highest rating. This book gets four out of four stars from me. It had all the right ingredients for a great read: crime, horror, family problems, international intrigue and even romance. I would highly recommend this book to all readers who love a good crime, mystery and horror novel. I would even recommend this book to those who do not usually read this genre. It kept me intrigued and captivated my imagination." - Onlinebookclub Reviews
Author Biography
I've been fortunate with opportunities to travel the world, counting Mexico, France, Sweden and Spain as my home at one time or other. In the past, a good part of my life was dedicated to business ventures: an art gallery, an advertising agency and commodity trading, among others.
My travels have taken me to faraway places and amazing situations. I arrived in Mongolia just as the revolution for independence from the USSR started. I have been taken up the Sepik river by crocodile hunters in Papua Guinea. I’ve climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya, gone horseback riding to where the Río Magdalena in Colombia begins, crossed the Australian desert, hiked the Inka trail the wrong direction in Peru, and much more. However, the experience with the most impact that I’ve lived through was to be arbitrarily jailed in a centre for torture in Paraguay during the Stroessner dictatorship, under the absurd accusation of being a terrorist.
During the past two decades, I've been focused on artistic expressions – painting, photography, design and architecture, but mainly on writing. The sources for the things I'm interested in writing about are the passions of people; places and customs that I've experienced around the world; and stories or situations from life that intrigue me. However, I'm convinced that none of the aforementioned is enough to create a work of literature (or any kind of artwork, for that matter), unless it's supported by a strong, fundamental idea.
My interests are centred around languages, music, travelling to extraordinary places, and all visual arts. These elements, I believe, occupy a large place in what I write. Moreover, I perceive my literary work easy to visualise because of them.
