Author Biography
Shahad Al Rawi is an Iraqi novelist, born in Baghdad in 1986. She published her first novel, “Sa’at Baghdad” (The Baghdad Clock) in 2016. It was shortlisted for the 2018 International Prize for Arabic Fiction. The novel’s English edition won the Edinburgh First Book Award in 2018. “The Baghdad Clock” has been translated into several languages, including English, Hindi, Persian, Turkish, Indonesian, Kurdish, Albanian, and soon French and German. ///Her second novel, “Fawqa Jisr Al Jumhuriya” (Over the Jumhuriya Bridge), was published in 2020. It has been translated into Persian, with an English translation expected to be out by the end of the year. ///Al Rawi holds a PhD in anthropology and administration. Vogue chose her as one of the key Arab personalities for 2018, and she regularly writes for several Arab and global newspapers, and she contributes to literary conferences and academic lectures.
