House of Large Sizes
by Ian Graham Leask
Description
Once in a while a novel comes along that is very different. House of Large Sizes is such a novel. A dysfunctional, sexually addicted and inauthentic little family finds its failings coming to a head when one member decides to deal with his pain directly and heads to New Orleans for an unsanctioned sex change. They all end up in The French Quarter—in "the sump of America'—and a great mythic Jambalaya of horrors are visited upon them as a venomous and self-professed witch threatens to run amok. House of Large Sizes is a rare but extraordinarily "readable" literary work, which draws from multiple genres to produce its sometimes shocking and laser-like effect on the imagination.

"'You cannot hide in a laugh, only in laughter' Ian Graham Leask writes in House of Large Sizes. The truth is, there's nowhere to hide in this fiction, even if there's plenty of room to laugh. Leask has written a rollicking richshaw of a novel, hauled around by the author's profound intelligence, acerbic wit, and deep morality. This novel is sexy and sad, too. The work of an expert storyteller uninhibited by any pretense. Do yourself a favor and hide away in these pages for a while." —Peter Geye, Author of Wintering, The Lighthouse Road and Safe from the Sea.

Author Biography
Ian Graham Leask was born and raised in the London area. He is lucky to have had an unhappy childhood. He started writing at fifteen and has never stopped—his office is full of notebooks. He traveled. After a year in Germany, where he worked as a meat porter in a schlachthoff and wrote dull poetry at night, he settled in Minneapolis, graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in English and Writing, and narrowly avoided becoming a professor. He has thrived as a teacher, literary consultant and publisher, and is the author of The Wounded and Other Stories About Sons and Fathers. He co-hosts KFAI's literary radio show "Write On! Radio" and lives mostly in Minneapolis with frequent spells in London.
