To say that poetry is everywhere could be another way of saying that we do not really know where the poetic lies, and Ensayos para una historia de economía doméstica is an affirmation of this suspicion. In this book, the reality of politics, economics, economic debts, biographical references (real and imaginary), domestic problems and social violence are all present rather than inane lyricism. There is perhaps something intrinsically poetic in these realities, but it is the author's gaze and language that endow them with an aesthetic value that does not aspire to embellish them, but to expose their most complex and, for that very reason, transcendent meanings. As the title indicates, these texts can be essays on political theory, treatises on precarious economy, domestic reflections where the personal and the political are threaded together or, simply, artifacts of war -in the sense that Carmen Berenguer names them- that inevitably pierce an excessively neat literary tradition, in need of a connection with history, less peace and more politics to circumvent and finally leave behind the poem where the self overflows to unimaginable places that nobody cares about. In the face of a publishing market where superciliousness and egotic poetry abound, Eva Castañeda offers a book that looks outside itself, that militates in its reality and from that trench proposes a social reading of language that is at once dialogue, circumstance and context.
