Franziska Oswald leaves her home, takes the train to Berlin, leaving behind a promising career as a young academic and a single-family home in a pretty settlement in Münsterland, where she lived with her partner Johannes. In Berlin she hides in a dark, neglected hovel on the ground floor in the backyard. She signed the lease under a false name. Nobody knows where she is because something terrible happened at home. She wanders aimlessly through the city, meets Henny Mangold, who offers her a cleaning job. A cleaning job is the last thing Franziska wants, but she agrees. And soon realizes that not only she has something to hide, but also Henny Mangold. And then there's Sina, a stray teenager from Neukölln who follows Franziska out of boredom...

Reviews
Author Biography
Regina Nössler grew up in Frankfurt and in the Ruhr area, studied German, theatre, film and television studies and lives as a freelance author and editor in Berlin. Awards including the German Crime Prize, Stuttgart Crime Prize. In her novels and thrillers she deals with the paradoxes of everyday human life and socio-political issues from the perspective of individuals. In her thrillers, it is not the investigators that are the focus; sometimes they hardly show up at all. She writes ‚standalones‘: Every thriller has different characters, a different theme, always close to social reality.
