In the sixteenth year of Pharaoh Ramesses IX’s reign the tombs of the Pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings get looted. Soon a suspect is found: the simple hard hewer Amenpanufer is arrested by the Medjay guards and the prey from the tombs is found at the place of a well/known dealer of stolen goods. The case seems to be solved, nevertheless the mayor of East Thebes, Pa/Ser, stays wary. Did Amenpanufer work alone? When the writer of the tombs starts suspecting his workers of grave robbery, Pa/Ser realizes that he underestimated the range of the lootings. Is Paveru, the lord of the tombs, himself involved in the crimes? Gradually the machinations of the grave robbers are exposed, but the involvement of Thebes’ mighty in the lucrative business is difficult to prove.
