After the Maduro regime gave in 2016 the military exploitation rights on an entire region in Southern Venezuela, the gold rush in the Mining Arc unleashed unprecedented environmental damage, human rights abuse from sexual slavery to mass murder, critical pressure on indigenous communities, and violent competition among armed actors. Based on data research and testimonies from miners, this book tells a detailed story of this State-sponsored operation to devastate the northern border of the Amazon basin under a criminal governance.
