Surmise winds
by Sergio Mansilla
This notable collection of poems in prose or poetic prose, composed in multiple lyrical layers, modernizes the problem of the violence that originated the cultural construction of America. Through a precise selection of practices, events and characters, as well as a surprising sensibility and literary culture, in "Surmise winds", Sergio Mansilla proposes an aesthetic story, more than about a period, about a facet of universal history, from sacrificial rites to the great wars and conflicts of the 20th century.

December 2008Zurück nach Lanús
Roman
by Sergio Olguín, Matthias Strobel

Shakespeare studies & criticismApril 2025The invention of Shakespeare
Christopher Marlowe and the School of Night
by Christian Torres Roje
Four hundred years after the publication of Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies—the most influential volume in Western literature—this book offers unprecedented evidence of the so-called Marlowe Theory. It postulates that the man from Stratford was merely a circumstantial front man for a larger cultural operation: the propagation of the work of Christopher Marlowe, the favorite poet-spy of the anti-Catholic Elizabethan elite and co-founder of the School of Night, disgraced for being an atheist, blasphemer, and homosexual, thus laying the foundations for a secular "new religion" alternative to Christianity. Nearly twenty texts never before translated into Spanish, along with a meticulous comparative reading of the Marlowe-Shakespeare continuum, comprise this monumental essay that unites the literary, historical, and philosophical in a kaleidoscope of understanding that era and those who gave it life, from Queen Elizabeth I to Giordano Bruno. The essay on Hamlet, meanwhile, offers perspectives for reinterpreting Shakespeare's work in a completely new way.

January 2025Claudina. Theater, love, and revolution in the nitrate pampas
by Sergio González Miranda
Claudina is both a protagonist and a privileged witness to that world in which workers edited and wrote newspapers and women workers organized plays, to be distributed and performed in every corner of the desert and beyond. Workers who could not conceive of education and culture divorced from the transformation of the system that, in the first instance, placed them in a position of social subordination, but not of passivity. This novel represents for us the same thing that Claudina's plays represented a hundred years ago. It is the possibility of living, even if only for the hours it takes to read, in a world different from the one we face every day. A world, we insist, no less unjust than the current one, but more hopeful, one that allowed a young woman who arrived on a conscript boat from the south to become, in addition to the mother of the people of Tarapacá, the socialist muse of the people of the north.

October 2008Erinnerungen an die Unterentwicklung
Roman
by Edmundo Desnoes, Gisbert Haefs, Edmundo Desnoes
