Forests cover approximately 26% of the world's land surface area and represent a distinct biotic community. Mein liebes Berlin - von Meir Sussman Hintergrund des Romans ist die Geschichte Berlins seit dem 2. Weltkrieg bis Mitte der 80er Jahre. Während des NS-Regimes werden die jüdischen Protagonisten von Berlin zuerst in das Ghetto von Lodz und dann nach Auschwitz deportiert. Wir erfahren von der Zeit in Lodz und Auschwitz und wie sie nach Kriegsende in ihre Heimatstadt zurückkehren, um das jüdische Gemeindezentrum wieder aufzubauen. Im geteilten und zerstörten Nachkriegsberlin herrscht große Not. Ästhetik, Kultur und Komfort existieren Seite an Seite mit dem Elend der Stadt, mit den Betrunkenen, Bettlern, Kriegerwitwen und Händlern, die die Hinterlassenschaften der Überlebenden zu Geld machen. Die Protagonisten treffen sich Mitte der 80ger Jahre beim Pessach Seder (dem traditionellen jüdischen Mahl am Vorabend des Pessachfestes, mit dem die Befreiung von der Sklaverei und der Auszug der Juden aus Ägypten gefeiert wird) und diskutieren das Schicksal der überlebenden Juden. Der Gastgeber erinnert sich an das Fest 1941, das er im Ghetto von Lodz feiern mußte. Was hat die Überlebenden letztlich dazu bewegt, nach Berlin zurückzukehren und dort ein neues Leben aufzubauen ? Die Frage wird immer wieder gestellt, gibt es eine Antwort ? Die mannigfaltigen Veränderungen der Stadt von einer Weltstadt vor dem Krieg zu einer geteilten Insel zwischen Ost und West bis in das Berlin kurz vor der Wende werden aus der persönlichen Perspektive der Protagonisten lebendig. Meir Sussman, geb. in Jerusalem studierte Film (New York) und Theologie (Berlin). Er produzierte den erfolgreichen Film Zacharia (Deutschland 1985-86, Drehbuch und Regie: Irene Dische). Eine seiner Kurzgeschichten, Die Bau - Maus, wurde in der Zeitschrift Der Alltag (Zürich, 1989) unter dem Pseudonym Max Katzenfuß veröffentlicht. Der Autor hat neben mehreren preisgekrönten Theaterstücken auch zwei Kinderbücher veröffentlicht: Der tolle Koch (Jerusalem, 1997) sowie Benjamin der Gute und Benjamin der Böse (Jerusalem, 1999).
