        Angela Davis löscht ihre Website

        Listen, Refrains, Abbildungen

        by Andreas Neumeister

Moving in Stereo: The Life of Ric Ocasek, the Driving Force of The Cars

        by By Peter Aaron

The sound of New Wave pop music and the early days of MTV were defined by the work of a handful of iconic musicians, and few stood taller in that era than Ric Ocasek, frontman and primary songwriter for The Cars. The band charted 13 Top 40 singles in the U.S. from 1978 to 1987 and the music video for their 1984 song "You Might Think" won the first-ever MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year for its groundbreaking use of computer graphics. The band's biggest hit, "Drive," was a Top 10 hit across the globe and closely associated with the legendary Live Aid event. Ocasek wrote or co-wrote all the band's music, and later lent his extraordinary talent as a producer to bands like Weezer, No Doubt, Guided by Voices, and Bad Brains. In 2018, The Cars were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which marked the final live performance of the group before Ocasek's death the following year. Moving in Stereo: The Life of Ric Ocasek, the Driving Force of The Cars serves as an in-depth guide to Ocasek's life and

Gimme All Your Lovin’: The Blues, Boogie, and Beard of ZZ Top's Billy F. Gibbons

        by By Christopher McKittrick

Before launching the iconic Texas blues-rock trio ZZ Top, a young Billy Gibbons was hustling through the Lone Star State with a band named the Moving Sidewalks. The small-time band had the chance of a lifetime when they opened for legendary rock guitar maestro Jimi Hendrix, who took the teenage Gibbons and took him under his wing. Over 50 years later, Gibbons is one of the most recognizable rock musicians in American history. From ZZ Top’s early work in creating classic rock radio staples like “La Grange” and “Tush” in the 1970s to becoming a global phenomenon with innovative music videos in the early years of MTV, Gibbons has been the guiding hand behind ZZ Top’s evolution from the “Little Ol’ Band from Texas” to pop culture behemoth with the 1983 album Eliminator, which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. As the guitarist and main singer of ZZ Top, Gibbons has led the band to popularity and has gained immense respect among other music luminaries with guest appearances and collaborations with legends

        RADIOHEAD

        Life in a Glasshouse

        by John Aizlewood

Voted second-best artist of the 2000s by the readers of Rolling Stone, Radiohead is recognised as not only one of the most eminent alternative rock bands, but also one of the most forward-thinking and experimental. After gaining attention with the slow-burning success of their single "Creep", the band have continued to ceaselessly move forward, rejecting the “MTV eye-candy lifestyle” set out for them and choosing to alter and refine their sound with every subsequent release.Three-and-a-half decades later, the band manages to remain one of the most prominent names on the music scene. However, when they formed as On A Friday in 1985, they were considered musical outliers from the detached and indistinguishably instrumented era of shoegaze, with their earlier work earning mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. It was a long road until the group scored the international attention and acclaim that they can boast today. Author John Aizlewood writes for Mojo, Q and Classic Rock. During a 25-year career, he has written about music for The Guardian, Blender, The Observer, Melody Maker, Sounds, FHM, The Sunday Times and a host of others. His books include Love Is The Drugand Playing At Home; he is a critic on the widely acclaimed Rock Icons series and lives near London.

        Endless Stories

        by Anastasiia Pika

What do prince Harry, homeless Beduin and Alexander Lukashenko have in common? They all, surprisingly, could be met on the streets of Kyiv.   Our life – is a daily flow of incredible stories, you just need time to write down! The heroes of this illustrated collection – artists, taxi drivers, teachers, homeless people, gas stations’ workers, loser-suitors and even world-famous politicians! And all of them are united by one thing: a desire to be heard. The book is for those who like to laugh, to think and who believe in people.   This collection included stories, novels and essays, written by Kyiv author Anastasiia Pika during the period from 2010 to 2018. How do you make a movie, when you aren’t a grown-up

        by Zuzka Dušičková, Adela Režná

One day, Marina Submarina decided to shoot a great movie about pirates and monsters. With her grandpa and friends, because one can’t do everything on their own. What’s more, it was loads of fun with them.   Marina even took a secret oath on the carousel with Jonas and Chris that would never go to school again because they would already know how to make movies. And so they didn’t spend holiday climbing trees and riding bikes, well, all right, they did, but only a little! But they were thoroughly looking for the film crew and actors, scrambling costumes, making up the plan, arranging placing for shooting and, of course, shooting!   Foreign Rights: books@owlagency.org

I am Nirvana. The story of Kurt Cobain

        by Andrea Biscaro

Fino a quel maledetto fucile Remington...
