        Caroline Schlegel-Schelling

        Ein Lebensbild in Briefen

        by Sigrid Damm, Caroline Schlegel-Schelling, Sigrid Damm

        Unter den Frauen der Romantik war Caroline Schlegel-Schelling (1763–1809) eine der faszinierendsten Persönlichkeiten. Eine »politisch-erotische Natur« nennt sie Friedrich Schlegel. An der Seite Georg Forsters erlebte sie die Mainzer Republik, als Ehefrau August Wilhelm Schlegels die Jenaer Frühromantik. Ihr Haus wird zum literarischen Zentrum: Novalis, Brentano, Tieck, Tischbein, Friedrich Schlegel, Goethe und Fichte sind dort ebenso zu Gast wie der junge Philosoph Schelling, dessen Frau sie 1803 wird. Ihre hinterlassenen Briefe sind Zeugnis eines ungewöhnlichen Lebens, das widerspruchsreich, erfüllt und unerfüllt war. Sigrid Damm hat die schönsten Briefe der Caroline Schlegel-Schelling ausgewählt und entwirft in ihrem Essay einfühlsam und voller Sympathie das Porträt einer Frau, die ihr Leben in historisch aufgezwungenen engen Grenzen zu gestalten wußte, die sich schon früh weigerte, im »Hauptzweck des Weibes« für sich den Hauptzweck des Lebens zu sehen.

        Die Sterne von Paris

        Ein Roman der kulinarischen Abenteuer

        by Idwal Jones, Andrea Fischer, Anthony Bourdain

        Die Geschichte eines jungen Mannes, der nach Paris kommt und dort leben, lieben und kochen lernt – nur nicht in dieser Reihenfolge. Eigentlich will Jean-Marie zur See fahren. Aber dann improvisiert er für eine englische Baronin eine Mahlzeit. Und die trägt ihm eine Empfehlung an ein altehrwürdiges 3-Sterne-Restaurant in Paris ein. Dort tafeln Aristokratinnen und Anarchisten, große und kleine Ganoven, Mätressen und Maharadschas. Noch interessanter geht es aber in der Küche zu – hier begegnet Jean-Marie der wahren Liebe seines Lebens. Folgen Sie Idwal Jones ins Paris der 30er Jahre, köstlich und leicht wie ein Soufflé, lebensklug und witzig wie ein Tischnachbar im Paradies. »Ein bezaubernder Roman über die wirklich wichtigen Dinge im Leben: Liebe, Freunde, Schokolade.« Denis Scheck

        Emigration from Scotland between the wars

        by Marjory Harper, Andrew Thompson, John Mackenzie

        Emigration from Scotland has always been very high. However, emigration from Scotland between the wars surpassed all records; more people emigrated than were born, leading to an overall population decline. Why was it so many people left? Marjory Harper, whose knowledge is grounded in a deep understanding of the local records, maps out the many factors which worked together to cause this massive diaspora. After an opening section where the author sets the Scottish experience within the context of the rest of the British Isles, the book then divides the country geographically, starting with the Highlands, then coastal Scotland, and the urban Lowland highlighting in turn the factors that particularly influenced each of these areas. Harper then discusses the organised religious and political movements that encouraged emigration. By interweaving personal stories with statistical evidence Harper brings to life the reality behind the dramatic historical migration. ;

        Global Climate Change and Coastal Tourism

        Recognizing Problems, Managing Solutions and Future Expectations

        by Andrew L Jones, Michael Phillips, Abdullah Akbas, Nazan An, Angela Anthonisz, Paulo Borges, Stephen William Boyd, Huong T. Bùi, Jeremy Buultjens, Helena Maria Calado, Rita Cannas, Salvador Anton Clavé, James Andrew Graham Cooper, Janice Cumberbatch, Osman Cenk Demiroglu, Denyse S. Dookie, Danielle Edwards

        Building upon the book Disappearing Destinations (Jones and Phillips 2010) and its conclusion that promoted the need to recognize problems, meet expectations and manage solutions Global Climate Change and Coastal Tourism explores current threats to, and consequences of, climate change on existing tourism coastal destinations. Part 1 of the book provides a theoretical platform and addresses topics such as sustainability, tourism impacts, governance trade and innovation and how the media addresses climate change and tourism. It also assesses management and policy options for the future sustainability of threatened tourism coastal destinations. Part 2 presents case studies from all regions of the world (Europe, The Americas, Asia, Africa and Australasia) which synthesise findings to make recommendations that can be used to promote strategies that ameliorate projected impacts of climate change on coastal tourism infrastructure and in turn promote the future sustainability of coastal tourism destinations. This is a timely and informative text with appeal to researchers, undergraduate and post graduate students of tourism management, tourism planning, sustainable tourism development and leisure management, coastal tourism/management, environmental management/planning, geography, coastal zone management or climate change studies.

        Greta’s Voice

        by Ged Umlimi / Amelina Jones

        Very few people had the courage and the chance to change the course of events in history. Ghandi was one of them. Rosa Parks was another. But for the first time, a teenager stood up. Greta Thunberg started with small steps, sitting in front of the Swedish Parliament and later skipping schools on every Friday in order to demand action on climate crisis. In time, she inspired millions of young people and adults around the world to take to the streets to demand the same. Greta’s Voice is the real story of the 16-year-old climate activist, a story that will give hope to people of all ages and prove to children that they don’t need to wait becoming a grown up to make a difference. Greta’s is a story of persistence and inspiration, a wake up call for us all. We hope we will stop the climate crisis altogether
