Die Entwicklung Salzburgs zur Literaturstadt setzte nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs ein: 1919 begründete Max Reinhardt die Salzburger Festspiele, bei denen 1923 Hofmannsthals "Jedermann" zur Uraufführung gelangte. Stefan Zweig erwarb zur gleichen Zeit hier seine "Villa Europa" auf dem Kapuzinerberg, Treffpunkt international renommierter Autoren. Brecht ließ sich nach 1945 auf eine eigene Fassung des "Jedermann" ein - und erlangte so die österreichische Staatsbürgerschaft. Er wohnte auf dem Mönchsberg im selben Haus, in das 30 Jahre später Peter Handke einziehen sollte. Dieser Reisebegleiter führt auf den Spuren Thomas Bernhards und Georg Trakls durch die Salzburger Innenstadt und auf die beiden Hausberge. Mit Peter Handke kann man den Almkanal entlang zum Untersberg wandern u. v. a.m.

The Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus, is the most destructive and invasive termite species globally. It is also the only termite species listed in the world's 100 worst invasive alien species of the Global Invasive Species Database. Annually, its infestation costs more than $4 billion in control and damage repairs in the USA alone. This book is the first comprehensive resource drawing on all the literature on C. formosanus since Tokuichi Shiraki first described the species in 1909. The book covers the worldwide distribution of this species, its biogeography, and how it has dispersed from its native range in southern China and Taiwan to different parts of the world. It describes its present taxonomic status and discusses the species' biology, ecology, foraging behavior, physiology, chemical ecology and its association with symbionts. From a practical standpoint, the authors address all of the various management options for this species, such as baits, soil termiticides, wood preservatives, inspection and detection technologies, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches. Lastly, there are chapters dedicated to another important destructive species, Coptotermes gestroi (the Asian subterranean termite), and the recently discovered C. formosanus/C. gestroi hybrids. Theologie und Judaistik in Tübingen, Bonn, Jerusalem und Heidelberg, Promotion 1997 in Frankfurt a.M., Habilitation 2006 in Erfurt. 2007-2010 Professor für jüdische Geschichte und Direktor des Centre for German-Jewish Studies an der University of Sussex. Vorher Stationen als Wiss. Mitarbeiter am Salomon-Ludwig-Steinheim-Institut für deutsch-jüdische Geschichte in Duisburg und Wiss. Assistent am Lehrstuhl für Judaistik an der Universität Erfurt. Chaim Cohn, 1911 in Lübeck geboren, wanderte 1930 nach Palästina aus. Er studierte in Jerusalem Judaistik und Jura. Seit der Staatsgründung Israels 1948 wirkte er als Generalstaatsanwalt – in der Funktion wirkte er bei der Ergreifung Eichmanns mit Fritz Bauer zusammen –, als Justizminister des Landes und von 1960 an als Richter am Obersten Gerichtshof Israels. Er vertrat sein Land bei der UNO-Menschenrechtskommission. Chaim Cohn starb 2002 in Jerusalem. Christian Wiese, geboren 1961, Studium der Ev. Through a focus on London, this book explores how heroism was manufactured as civilians adopted roles in production, protection and defence, through the use of uniforms and medals, and through the way that civilians were injured and killed. This book makes a novel contribution to the study of heroism by exploring the spatial, material, corporeal and ritualistic dimensions of heroic representations. This book opens the doors to the homes of the forgotten poor and traces the goods they owned before, during and after the industrial revolution (c. 1650-1850). Using a vast and diverse range of sources, it gets to the very heart of what it meant to be 'poor' by examining the homes of the impoverished and mapping how numerous household goods became more widespread. As the book argues, poverty did not necessarily equate to owning very little and living in squalor. In fact, its novel findings show that most of the poor strove to improve their domestic spheres and that their demand for goods was so great that it was a driving force of the industrial revolution.

Irish Home Rule considers the pre-eminent issue in British politics during the late nineteenth and early twentieth-centuries. It is the first account to explain the various self-government plans, to place these in context and examine the motives for putting the schemes forward. The book distinguishes between moral and material home rulers, making the point that the first appealed especially to outsiders, some Protestants and the intelligentsia, who saw in self-government a means to reconcile Ireland's antagonistic traditions. In contrast, material home rulers viewed a Dublin Parliament as a forum of Catholic interests. This account appraises the home rule movement from a fresh angle, distinguishing it from the usual division drawn between physical force and constitutional nationalists It maintains that an ideological continuity runs from Young Ireland, the Fenians, the early home rulers including Isaac Butt and Charles Stewart Parnell, to the Gaelic Revivalists to the Men of 1916. These nationalists are distinguishable from material home rulers not on the basis of methods or strategy but by a fundamental ideological cleavage. ;
