She writes fiction that includes a diverse cast of characters with themes that deal with real-world issues and sometimes have a light sci-fi or paranormal feel to them. Her favorite age group falls within the New Adult range but her works appeal to the older YA and adult reader as well. Melanie would like to find representation as well as negotiate domestic and foreign print, digital and audio rights/licensing on her current published works and her upcoming projects.  Melanie S. Wolfe grew up between Kansas City, MO, and various places in Oklahoma (USA) where she studied Liberal Arts at the University of Oklahoma. She was a military wife for ten years and served the Army community as a Relocation Clerk while stationed in Bamberg, Germany. She currently lives in Florida with her family and is loving the beach life.

        John Polidori's novella The Vampyre (1819) is perhaps 'the most influential horror story of all time' (Frayling). Polidori's story transformed the shambling, mindless monster of folklore into a sophisticated, seductive aristocrat that stalked London society rather than being confined to the hinterlands of Eastern Europe. Polidori's Lord Ruthven was thus the ancestor of the vampire as we know it. This collection explores the genesis of Polidori's vampire. It then tracks his bloodsucking progeny across the centuries and maps his disquieting legacy. Texts discussed range from the Romantic period, including the fascinating and little-known The Black Vampyre (1819), through the melodramatic vampire theatricals in the 1820s, to contemporary vampire film, paranormal romance, and science fiction. They emphasise the background of colonial revolution and racial oppression in the early nineteenth century and the cultural shifts of postmodernity.

        George Bernard Shaw wurde am 26. Juli 1856 als Sohn eines Beamten in Dublin geboren. 1876 zog er nach London, wo er sich als einer der führenden Musik- und Theaterkritiker etablieren konnte. Shaw betätigte sich auch auf politischer Bühne und wurde u.a. Mitglied der Fabian Society. Seine schriftstellerische Laufbahn begann er mit fünf erfolglosen Romanen, wandte sich dann dem Schreiben von Dramen – darunter vielen Komödien – zu, die sich durch die Verbindung von Ironie, Satire und Kritik an gesellschaftlichen und politischen Mißständen auszeichnen. Shaws Gesamtwerk umfaßt über 60 Dramen. 1925 wurde er mit dem Literaturnobelpreis ausgezeichnet. Er starb am 2. November 1950 in Ayot Saint Lawrence.

        Four Saints in Three Acts by Gertrude Stein and Virgil Thomson was a major avant-garde phenomenon of the 1930s, an experimental opera that nonetheless achieved remarkable popular success. Photography was a key element of that success, but its complex roles in the construction, representation and dissemination of the opera have hitherto received little critical attention. The photographic recording of the all-African American cast in particular affords a unique insight into the complexities of Four Saints in relation to the Harlem Renaissance and the New York avant-gardes of the time. This book, published in collaboration with The Photographers' Gallery, London, presents a wide selection of photographs of the cast, performances, and other material - many images reproduced for the first time - alongside essays by an international range of scholars exploring different aspects of the opera, including dance, fashion, music, and avant-garde writing, as well as photography.

        A.S. Byatt ist 1936 in Yorkshire geboren und besuchte dort eine Quäker-Schule. Ihr Vater war zuerst Anwalt, später Richter. Sie studierte in Cambridge und am Bryn Mawr College. A.S. Byatt hat an der London University gelehrt, an der Central School of Art and Design und seit 1972 am University College in London. Seit 1983 hat sie das Lehramt aufgegeben, um sich ganz dem Schreiben zu widmen. A.S. Byatts erster Roman, Shadow of Sun, erschien 1964; ihm folgten die Romane The Game (1967), The Virgin in the Garden (1978) und Still Life (1985) sowie der Erzählband Sugar and Other Stories (1985). Für ihren Roman Possession (Besessen) erhielt sie 1990 den Booker-Preis und den Irish-Times/Aer Lingus International Fiction Prize. Zu ihren wissenschaftlichen Veröffentlichungen zählen der Band Unruly Times: Wordsworth an Coleridge in Their Times (1970) und Passions of the Mind (1991). Die Novellen Angels and Insects erschienen 1992. A.S. Byatt war Mitglied verschiedener literarischer Jurys, darunter der, die den Booker-Preis bestimmt. Sie ist eine bekannte Literaturkritikerin, die regelmäßig für das Times Literary Supplement, die Sunday Times und die BBC schreibt. A.S. Byatt war Vorsitzende der Society of Authors und Mitglied des Kingman Committee on the teaching of English Language. A.S. Byatt hat drei Töchter und lebt in London. Melanie Walz, geboren 1953 in Essen, wurde 1999 mit dem Zuger Übersetzer-Stipendium und 2001 mit dem Heinrich-Maria-Ledig-Rowohlt-Preis ausgezeichnet. Sie hat u. a. Lily Brett, A. S. Byatt, John Cowper-Powis, Charles Dickens, Lawrence Norfolk und Marcel Proust übersetzt.

        Adelbert von Chamisso (Louis Charles Adelaide de Ch.), Dichter und Naturforscher, wurde am 30.1.1781 als Sohn eines lothringischen Offizers auf Schloß Boncourt (Champagne) geboren und starb am 21.1.1838 in Berlin. Seine nach der Konfiskation gänzlich verarmten Eltern flüchteten 1790 mit dem Kind vor der Fränzöischen Revolution nach Lüttich. Von dort kamen sie über Den Haag, Düsseldorf und Bayreuthz nach Berlin. Dort wurde Chamisso 1801 Leutnant mit einem preußischen Regiment. Vom Millitärdienst enttäuscht, nahm er 1806 seinen Abschied und widmete sich in Frankreich und auf dem Gut der Mme. de Stael naturwissenschaftliche Studien. 1812-1815 Studium der Medizin und Botanik in Berlin. 1815-1818 nahm Chamisso als Naturforscheran einer russischen Weltumsegelung teil, die er in seinen "Bemerkungen und Ansichten auf einer Entdeckungsreise" (1821) schilderte. Seine symbolische Novelle vom verkauften Schatten, "Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte", schrieb er während der Freiheitskriege 1813 in Kunersdorf. In fast alle Weltsprachen übersetzt, machte sie ihren Verfasser weltberühmt. Die reizvollsten Illustrationen zu "Peter Schlemihls wundersame Geschichte" erschienen 1908. Mit ihren hat Emil Preetouris (1883-1973) - Mitarbeiter der Zeitschriften "Simplicissismus" und "Jugend" - seine Laufbahn als Erneuerer der Buchkunst und als einer der einflußreichsten Graphiker unseres Jahrhunderts begonnen. Seine Essay "Adelbert von Chamisso" schrieb Thomas Mann 19211 eigens für die Einzelausgabe dieser Novelle.
