Strange Days Books is a social cooperative publishing firm based in Crete, Greece. Since 2012 we have published almost 100 books. Every year we organize Sand Festival, an online Writers’ Workshop and - in cooperation with www.eyelands.gr literary magazine - the one and only international short story competition based in Greece, plus our International Book Awards. In 2019 SDB was the only publishing house in Greece to receive approval by the European Union’s Creative Europe translation funding program for its project "Strange Days in Europe”. Strange Days Books is an entirely independent publisher, primarily interested in showcasing the wealth of new writing voices in Greece. We work closely with our authors to create books that will appeal to booklovers, books about the present, books that strive to push the art of literature forward, books written with talent and passion, books that challenge the way we see the world, books bursting with new ideas and intriguing perspectives.

Ukiyo-e is a print art popular during the Edo period (1601-1867) in Japan. It is known as the "encyclopedia of Japanese folklore". It features oiran beauty, Kabuki actors, erotic charms, scenery, flowers, birds, and social customs, representing the lifestyles and fashions of all classes of society at that time. Pan Li, an authority on Ukiyo-e research, clearly described the 300-year history of the rise and fall of Ukiyo-e. This book is a study of five remarkable sixteenth-century women. Part of the select group of Tudor women allowed access to a formal education, the Cooke sisters were also well-connected through their marriages to influential Elizabethan politicians. Drawing particularly on the sisters' own writings, this book demonstrates that the sisters' education extended far beyond that normally allowed for sixteenth-century women, challenging the view that women in this period were excluded from using their formal education to practical effect. It reveals that the sisters' learning provided them with opportunities to communicate effectively their own priorities through their translations, verse and letters. By reconstructing the sisters' networks, it demonstrates how they worked alongside - and sometimes against - family members over matters of politics and religion, empowered by their exceptional education. Providing new perspectives on these key issues, it will be essential reading for early modern historians and literary scholars.

Die Korrespondenz zwischen Hans Blumenberg und Jacob Taubes dokumentiert das inhaltsreiche und nicht ganz spannungsfreie Verhältnis zweier Intellektueller, wie sie unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten: Auf der einen Seite Hans Blumenberg, der eines der eindrucksvollsten Gesamtwerke deutschsprachiger Philosophie des 20. Jahrhunderts geschaffen hat; auf der anderen Seite der Religionsphilosoph Jacob Taubes, der es wie kein Zweiter verstand, Intellektuelle unterschiedlichster Fachrichtungen miteinander ins Gespräch zu bringen. Der Briefwechsel setzt 1961 ein, als Taubes die Vertretung des Lehrstuhls für Judaistik am neu gegründeten Institut für die Wissenschaft des Judentums an der Freien Universität Berlin übernahm, und endet 20 Jahre später wiederum mit einem Brief von Taubes aus Frankfurt, in dem er Blumenberg berichtet, er habe auf der Buchmesse dessen 'Die Lesbarkeit der Welt' entdeckt. Dazwischen wird allerlei verhandelt: vor allem das Werk Blumenbergs, das in Taubes einen kongenialen Leser gefunden hat, aber auch die Situation an den Universitäten und die berühmte Forschungsgruppe 'Poetik und Hermeneutik'. Und natürlich geht es auch um Carl Schmitt und Gershom Scholem und nicht zuletzt um den Suhrkamp Verlag, insbesondere die neue Reihe 'Theorie', zu deren Herausgebern Blumenberg und Taubes gehörten. Die 56 überlieferten Briefe werden nun zusammen mit weiteren Materialien zum ersten Mal kommentiert vorgelegt. Sie führen ins Zentrum der intellektuellen Debatten der 1960er und 1970er Jahre und sind ein wichtiges Stück Geistesgeschichte der alten Bundesrepublik aus der Perspektive zweier ihrer wichtigsten Vertreter.
