        Picture Books about Emotion Management for Girls

        by Le Fan, Liu Chanjuan, Liu Jiaxi

        While growing up, girls are more likely than boys to receive contradictory expectations from different aspects of their lives: parents, teachers, peers, society, and themselves. They could be rebellious but at the same time remain "good girls". They could express anger against bullies at school while simultaneously meeting teachers' expectations of nonaggressive behavior. They could be powerful and competitive at the same time that they worry about being considered "unfeminine". Girls struggle with these conflicting messages in their everyday lives, trying to please all these other people and losing track of themselves. Writer Le Fan, who has experienced the same contradictions as growing up, hopes that girls could love themselves, put themselves first a little more. So here comes the Picture Books about Emotion Management for Girls.   The series contains five stories of five courageous little girls who were experiencing confusion in their lives. Little Le Fan in I am not Just a Good Girl tried to find the balance between two sides of herself—a cool girl and a good girl. Xiaoxiao in I love myself learned to be more confident and accepted her new look after her baby teeth fell out. Jiang in I'm so Jealous learned to deal with jealousy towards her best friend. A timid girl Xiao in I can Say No strived to express herself and stop the little boy's bullies. Feng in I Really Want to Win embraced her inner "tomboy" with daddy's encouragement. All the five little girls, though struggling, broke out of cultural and societal stereotypes swirling around them and became their true selves.

        Le Bateau ivre. Das trunkene Schiff

        by Arthur Rimbaud, Joachim Seng, Paul Celan

        Picture Books about Emotion Management for Boys

        by Le Fan, Duan Zhang Qu Yi

        There is a pervading idea, both in the east and west, that "big boys don't cry". To reach some cultural ideal of a "real man", boys are too often pushed to be tough and stoic and suppress their emotions. The Picture Books about Emotion Management for Boys challenges this old tradition. Of course boys cry, and we should let them cry!   The series contains five books. I Want to Cry encourages boys to express their vulnerable feelings in appropriate ways. I Don't Want to Hit Back encourages boys to follow their hearts and stick up for themselves in the way they like. I am a Coward talks about self-acceptance. I Don't Want to be a Big Brother is for boys experiencing issues with new siblings. I Didn't Hear You talks about protecting boys' own little worlds.   All five stories came from author Le Fan's real experiences of raising two sons as a mother. While the books are certainly children's books, they could even be viewed as parent handbooks of sorts. The author has written their parents and other adults in little boys' eyes, and calls for parents and society to raise boys differently and understandingly so they can grow in positive, healthy ways.

        Das Antlitz des Friedens. Le Visage de la Paix

        by Paul Eluard, Pablo Picasso, Herma C. Goeppert-Frank, Sebastian Goeppert, Pablo Picasso, Herma C. Goeppert-Frank, Sebastian Goeppert

        Le visage de la paix, erschienen im Oktober 1951, ist das letzte einer stattlichen Anzahl von Büchern, die von 1936 an, während fünfzehn Jahren, aus der Zusammenarbeit von Paul Eluard (1895–1952) und Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) entstanden sind.Am 5. Dezember, aus Anlaß des dreißigjährigen Bestehens der Kommunistischen Partei Frankreichs, zeichnete Picasso eine Folge von 29 allegorischen Variationen zum Thema Taube und Frauengesicht. In der Abfolge der Zeichnungen entwickelte Picasso nach Art einer Bildergeschichte die schrittweise Annäherung der Taube an das Frauengesicht. Das Frauengesicht erscheint zuerst nur als Umriß, wird nach und nach belebt, während die Taube sich mehr und mehr herandrängt, das Gesicht mehr und mehr umfängt, bis sie schließlich eine Einheit mit ihm bildet: Die Taube hat sich das Frauengesicht einverleibt.Gestalt- und Antlitz-Metamorphosen sind in dem Werk von Picasso nichts Ungewöhnliches. Das Motiv der Verbindung von Taube und Frauengesicht hingegen erscheint hier zum erstenmal. (Aus dem Nachwort)

        Lettre sur la comedie de L'Imposteur

        by Mike Thompson, Robert McBride

        The Lettre sur la comédie de l'Imposteur is the only work of any length which does full justice to comedy in the 17th century as a serious dramatic form. It is an important document in its own right and because it is inseparable from the historical context of Molière's Le Tartuffe ou l'Imposteur and the circumstances which influenced its development. ;

        English nationalism, Brexit and the Anglosphere

        Wider still and wider

        by Ben Wellings

        This is the first book to examine the relationship between English nationalism, Brexit and 'the Anglosphere' - a politically-contested term used to denote English-speaking countries sharing cultural and historical roots with the UK. In the aftermath of the UK's EU referendum some pointed to a 'revolt' of those 'left behind' by globalisation. Ben Wellings argues instead that Brexit was and is an elite project, firmly situated within the tradition of an expansive English nationalism. Far from being parochial 'Little Englanders', elite Brexiteers sought to replace the European Union with trade and security alliances between 'true friends' and 'traditional allies' in the Anglosphere. Brexit was thus reassuringly presented as a giant leap into the known. As the UK's future relationship with the rest of the world is negotiated, the need to understand this 'English moment' has never been more pressing.

        El coronel no tiene quien le escriba

        by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Giovanni Pontiero

        Gabriel García Márquez has been described as the greatest writer in Spanish since Cervantes, and El coronel no tiene quien le escriba is considered to be one of his best works. This reflective and atmospheric novel is set in a small Colombian town where the frustrated and stubborn Colonel, a veteran of the 'War of a Thousand Days', is still, after thirty years, waiting for the letter authorising payment of his war pension. The old soldier and his wife mourn the brutal killing of their only son, and the story of their struggle against poverty and sickness culminates in the Colonel's defiant refusal to part with his cherished fighting cock, however serious the consequences. The moving narrative pays tribute to the resilience of human nature and man's will to survive in the face of heavy odds. The novel also throws light on the turbulent religious and political troubles in Latin America. Now revised to include an updated chronology and bibliography, Giovanni Pontiero's acclaimed critical edition provides English-speaking students with an introduction to, and notes on the text, and a selected vocabulary. ;

        Composition Biography: Thoughts and Confusion Carry Me

        by Said Bengrad

        The book is a story that combines childhood living in the 1960s deserts, before current forms of technology and virtualization. In this narrative text, it was not a matter of resurrecting a moment in a fleeting life in a non-stop chronology, but of shaping it into concepts that reconstruct it in an abstract way. The text does not present an individual story, but rather redraws the boundaries of an entire generation’s experience, a generation that saw the light after Morocco’s independence, with all of its subsequent achievements, failures, victories, and tragedies. The narrator in the text does not present ready-made theories; instead, he captures life in its events and facts and elevates it to an abstract level pending contemplation. The event in the text is an excuse for restoring life in the form of a “human experience,” and that is the outlet for returning academic knowledge to its role as an incubator for people’s concerns as depicted by their narratives, stories, and beliefs. What people experience by instinct; the story turns into another story constructed in the abstract. We do not simply live, we also contemplate our own living, and this is the sublime function of narration.

        Guillaume le Maréchal oder der beste aller Ritter

        by Georges Duby, Reinhard Kaiser

        Er nannte sich Guillaume le Maréchal, nicht William Marshal. Dennoch war er Engländer – mit normannischer Abkunft. Seiner Zeit galt er als »der beste aller Ritter«, und als Ritter machte er eine Bilderbuch-Karriere: vom mittellosen jüngeren Sohn eines armen Ritters bis zum mächtigen Regenten von England und zu einem der reichsten Barone der Feudalzeit, begütert in England, Frankreich und Irland. Im Jahr 1219 ist der Graf einen prunkvollen Tod gestorben: Er bot der Welt das Schauspiel eines regelrechten Fürstentodes, einen formvollendeten Abschied von der Welt. »Bisher war Guillaume höchstens Fachhistorikern ein Begriff. Jetzt hat er gute Chancen, zum Publikumsliebling zu avancieren.« (profil) Das Besondere an diesem »Musterbeispiel erzählender Geschichtsschreibung« (Die Zeit) ist, daß sich Duby auf ein dichterisches Werk stützen kann: das umfangreiche altfranzösische Versgedicht, das Guillaumes ältester Sohn zur würdigen Erinnerung an seinen bedeutenden Vater bei einem Autor namens Jean in Auftrag gab und das ein gewichtiges Zeugnis ablegt über die Verhältnisse und das Denken im Mittelalter. »Dieses Buch zu lesen ist ein Vergnügen von der ersten bis zur letzten Seite. Dem Leser geht es wie beim fixierenden Betrachten eines mittelalterlichen Tafelbildes, die Szene tritt aus dem Rahmen heraus, wird Leben und Ereignis… Was für ein Auftakt schon die Beschreibung des zeremoniellen, wochenlangen Sterbens dieses ›besten aller Ritter‹. Man hört dann nicht mehr auf.« (Die Presse)

        Auf der Suche nach einer jüdischen Theologie

        Briefwechsel

        by Schalom Ben-Chorin, Hans-Joachim Schoeps, Julius H. Schoeps, Julius H. Schoeps

        Der Briefwechsel zwischen dem Schriftsteller Schalom Ben-Chorin und dem Religionshistoriker Hans-Joachim Schoeps, der sich über vier Jahrzehnte (1934-1979) hinzieht, kreist im wesentlichen um ein Thema: Jüdische Theologie. In politischen Fragen Antipoden - empfand Schoeps seine preußische Herkunft als Schicksal, das seine Existenz unwandelbar formte, bekannte sich Schalom Ben-Chorin frühzeitig zum Zionismus und zog daraus seine Konsequenzen -, verband beide die Erkenntnis der Notwendigkeit jüdischer Theologie in unserer Zeit. Schoeps, Franz Rosenzweig folgend, ging von der Bejahung der Galuth (Diaspora) aus, während Ben-Chorin die Verwirklichung des Judentums primär in Israel sah und noch heute sieht. Beiden ging es um die Aufzeigung der Demarkationslinien des jüdischen Glaubens, von dem sie meinten, daß er aus der Bewußtseinslage des heutigen Menschen, in Konfrontation mit dem Komplex der Überlieferung, gewonnen werden sollte.
