        by Jennifer Alice Jager

In Tokyo there is only one person who has survived the destructive rage of Terra Mater. But Ayumi knows that something far worse awaits her than the ruins all around her. Animal

        Poemas breves salvajes

        by María José Ferrada, Ana Palmero

        "Hidden in his horn he guards the secret of the jungle”. This might be as well the beginning of a novel, but it's an inspired riddle about wild animals. The illustrations in high varnish of this edition highlight the different skin textures of each animal and invites the reader to discover a new way of reading in a tactile and playful way.

        El bolso

        by María José Ferrada, Ana Palmero Cáceres

        Keys, handkerchiefs, coins, three flowers from last spring, a bird. Boys and girls are expert observers and that is why they know that a mother’s purse fits everything. A book in Braille that reminds its readers that when observations are mixed with imagination, the most everyday objects are capable of coming to poetic life.

        Paris and the Commune 1871–78

        The politics of forgetting

        by Bertrand Taithe, Colette Wilson, Penny Summerfield, Peter Gatrell, Max Jones, Ana Carden-Coyne

        Despite the scholarship and political activism devoted to keeping the memory of the Paris Commune alive, there still remains much ignorance both in France and elsewhere, about the traumatic civil war of 1871; some 20,000 to 35,000 people were killed on the streets of Paris in just the final week of the conflict. Colette Wilson identifies a critical blind-spot in French studies and employs new critical approaches to neglected texts, marginalised aspects of the illustrated press, early photography and a selection of novels by Emile Zola. This book will be of interest to students and academics studying France in the nineteenth century from a number of different perspectives war and revolution studies, cultural studies, history and cultural memory, literature, art history, photography, the illustrated press, city studies and human geography. The book will appeal equally to all lovers of Paris who wish to know and understand more about the city's turbulent past. ;

        Milene

        Roman

        by Lídia Jorge, Karin Schweder-Schreiner

        Milene, die Anstößige – kennt sie nicht die Rücksichten und das kluge Doppelspiel, womit die Vernünftigen sich in der Gesellschaft bewegen? Mit ihrer befremdlichen Direktheit bringt sie zwei streng getrennte Welten durcheinander. Und seltsam, am Ende ist sie, obwohl von ihrer Familie hintergangen, die einzige, die gefunden hat, was sie sucht. Von ihren großspurigen Verwandten wird Milene, die als Waise bei ihrer Großmutter aufgewachsen ist, als kindisch zurückgeblieben abgetan, und als sie nach dem Verschwinden und unwürdigen Tod der Großmutter nicht zurückfindet in ihre Welt, flüchtet sie sich zu der dunkelhäutigen und vielköpfigen Einwandererfamilie von den Kapverden, auf die sie bei der Suche nach ihrer Großmutter gestoßen war. Die Fremden nehmen Milene verwundert und liebevoll auf in ihre Welt. Als sie eine Liebesbeziehung mit Antonino, einem Sohn der schwarzen Matriarchin, eingeht und von einer Heirat nicht abzuhalten ist, zeigt sich Milenes bürgerliche Verwandtschaft in aller kalten Durchsetzungsfähigkeit. Aber es ist, als prallten die Pläne, in denen Milene nichts als ein Entsorgungsfall ist, an ihrer Unbekümmertheit, an ihrer so berührenden Direktheit ab. Lídia Jorge ist eine psychologische Erzählerin von eindringlicher Kraft. Und sie ist eine große Realistin, der es gelingt, mit Milenes Geschichte ein ganzes Gesellschaftsbild aus unserer Gegenwart zu zeichnen.

        Mexique

        El nombre del barco

        by María José Ferrada, Ana Penyas

        On May of 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, 456 sons and daughters of republican fighters took the transatlantic boat Mexique, that set sail in Bordeau to arrive in Mexico. Previsions were that they would stay there three or four months, but the Republican defeat and the beginning of the Second World War changed that brief exile into a definitive one.  This books tells the story not only of those children, but also about the ship, being aware that we do not know how many boats try to cross our oceans every day, moving human beings that have full rights to a proper way of living and not to stand over a land that tears apart below their feet.

        Tropical Tuber Starches

        Structural and Functional Characteristics

        by S N Moorthy, M S Sajeev, R P K Ambrose, R J Anish

        This book provides comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge relating to the morphological, structural, and functional characteristics of tuber starches, particularly in relation to their applications in food and industry. In recent years there has been significant progress and extensive research conducted on tropical root starches and especially on some of the lesser known tuber crop starches. There has also been a shift towards using biomaterials in place of synthetic materials in various applications. As researchers investigate the availability of natural products with similar properties, starch has been identified as a reliable alternative to these synthetic materials. Reflecting the growing body of research, Tropical Tuber Starches: - Explores the structure, properties and applications of tropical root and tuber starches (cassava, sweet potato, aroids, yams and other minor tuber crops) - Includes a chapter on the methodology for starch characterisation - Covers patents on starch-based products and the commercial potential of tropical root starches A valuable resource for researchers and students, plant breeders, and commercial producers working with, or considering working with, tropical tuber starches. Coping Better with Cancer Therapy

        Improved quality of life with the right vitamins and minerals

        by Uwe Gröber and Prof. Dr. Klaus Kisters

        Cancer patients often suffer from malnutrition. Not only do they lack energy-providing macronutrients such as protein, fats and carbohydrates, they particularly lack the micronutrients that regulate the metabolism. Micronutrients such as vitamin D, selenium, L-carnitine, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin C significantly contribute to supporting the immune system of cancer patients, reducing inflammatory processes, alleviating the side effects of cancer therapy, and improving their quality of life. This patient guide provides information about the relationship between cancer, malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, the influence of cancer therapeutics on micronutrient balance, and how cancer patients can support their therapy and improve their quality of life with a controlled intake of micronutrient

        Julio Medem

        by Robert Stone, Nuria Triana-Toribio, Andy Willis

        This thorough account of the life and films of the Spanish-Basque filmmaker Julio Medem is the first book in English on the internationally renowned writer-director of Vacas, La ardilla roja (Red Squirrel), Tierra, Los amantes del Círculo Polar (Lovers of the Arctic Circle), Lucía y el sexo (Sex and Lucía), La pelota vasca: la piel contra la piedra (Basque Ball) and Caótica Ana (Chaotic Ana), Initial chapters explore Medem's childhood, adolescence and education and examine his earliest short films and critical writings against a background of a dramatically changing Spain. Later chapters provide accounts of the genesis, production and release of Medem's challenging and sensual films, which feed into complex but lucid analyses of their meanings, both political and personal, in which Stone draws on traditions and innovations in Basque art, Spanish cinema and European philosophy to create a complete and provocative portrait of Medem and his work. ;
