Anne Clifford's Great Books of Record

        by Jessica L. Malay

In her Great Books of Record Anne Clifford places herself within the dynamic history of the ancient Clifford family, providing an unbroken view into medieval and early modern life for nearly six centuries. In this annotated edition, we glimpse the lives of simple widows, traders, farmers, and labourers juxtaposed with the adventures of soldiers, lords and ladies, princes and princesses. Throughout, Anne Clifford asserts the centrality of women to the success of noble families, including the monarchy. Her Great Books draws upon medieval traditions and early modern scholarship and builds upon these through biographies of the Clifford lords and ladies, along with an extended biography of her mother Margaret Russell and her own autobiographical 'Life of Mee'. Those interested in the lives of medieval and early modern women, changes in culture, the effect of the political upon individuals, and the inspiring life of Anne Clifford will find this a rich and rewarding book.

        Autism Spectrum Disorders in Adults

A Practical Guide for Adults with ASD

        by Annelies Spek

Lately, autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in adults have received more and more attention. A decade ago, autism was only recognised and diagnosed in children. Oddly enough, the fact that ASD could also occur in adults has been neglected for a long time. By now it has become clear that the symptoms of ASD change over the lifetime. Though people with ASD definitely have many strengths (eye for detail, perseverance, sincerity, a sense of humour, reliability, and consistency), they also have shortcomings. This book brings the reader up to date about ASD. In Part 1, the causes of ASD are described, both in nature and nurture. This part also includes a discussion about information processing in relation to ASD. Part 2 deals with the behavioural aspects as described in the DSM-5. In Part 3, several important themes are discussed, such as the diagnostic process, sexuality, gender differences, and changes that people with ASD experience throughout their lives.    ‘I wish I had read this book 15 years ago. I finally understand why people respond to me the way they do.’ Joost, diagnosed with ASD.   Target Group: adults with autism, relatives, therapists.

        Mindfulness for Adults with Autism

A Handbook for Therapists and Adults with ASD

        by Annelies Spek

This book discusses a new type of therapy that can help people with autism to be less overburdened, let go of recurrent thoughts, and get better at recognizing physical signs of stress. Mindfulness includes meditation techniques that are derived from Buddhism and that do not require much communication or insight in thoughts and feelings. This is especially beneficial for people with autism, for whom communication and social interaction can be a challenge.  After a clear introduction to what mindfulness is, each chapter of this book offers a meditation exercise. For each meditation exercise useful tips and tricks are given, as well as potential pitfalls that relate directly to autism. Mindfulness for adults with autism is the first treatment for adults with autism that has proven to be effective. Because of its readability and the beautiful illustrations, this book is highly recommended for both therapists and people with autism.

        Einfacher leben

        by Marie Bernhard, Frank Badur

by LIM SWEE TIN, LILY KANG, FATINAH BINTI ILIAS

Kelantan is rich in traditional art such as dikir barat, makyung, menora, shadow play, main peteri, bageh and a few others. These arts are among those that have been established for centuries in the state of Kelantan, growing and not only nationally but internationally, for example dikir barat, makyung and shadow play. Even Makyung in 2005, was named as UNESCO's World Intangible Cultural Heritage. The book attempts to explore the art of shadow play through the highlight of the involvement of a mastermind, the now-famous Tok Dalang Che Ann in Kelantan state. Autopsy stories: the unusual experiences of a pathologist

        by Roland Sedivy

A glimpse inside the interior of the human being. Many find the idea fascinating; for others it is creepy or even repugnant. There are still numerous myths and horror stories surrounding the autopsy, many of them associated with primal human fears such as that of being buried alive, which have existed since Antiquity. It is precisely for this reason that it is important to carry out the post-mortem examination with the utmost conscientiousness. Pathologist Roland Sedivy provides an exciting insight into his profession. Profound and with tremendous humour, he tells us about the early days of the autopsy, and shares with us some macabre and some mysterious cases.
