Er studierte zunächst Mathematik und Physik in Berlin und Kiel und anschließend Philosophie und Soziologie in Heidelberg und Frankfurt am Main, wo er in Philosophie promovierte und habilitierte. Später lehrte er unter anderem in Toronto, New York City, Konstanz, Paris, Amsterdam und Berlin. Albrecht Wellmer verstarb am 13. September 2018 in Berlin.

Für Harry Frankfurt ist diese Fähigkeit untrennbar verbunden mit zwei anderen Aspekten der menschlichen Natur: Vernunft und Liebe. Die Vernunft gebietet über unseren Verstand, die Liebe über unser Herz. Sie liefern die Gründe für unser Tun und spielen damit eine entscheidende Rolle für unser Selbstverständnis als frei handelnde, über sich selbst reflektierende Personen. Allerdings, so Frankfurt, ist es die Liebe, die die praktische Vernunft regiert. Lieben heißt sich sorgen: etwas intensiv wünschen, wollen oder begehren. Es ist also die Logik der Sorge, die unser Denken und Handeln im Kern bestimmt.

In recent years there have been major changes in environmental and soil health caused by the erratic consumption of chemical fertilizers while improved methods for the creation of microbial inoculants have increased knowledge about the potential to use microorganisms (biofertilizers) in the mineral nutrition of plants. Biofertilizers are formulated products that contain one or more microorganism to enhance the nutrient status (growth and yield) of plants by replacing soil nutrients or making them more available to plants. However, they are not true fertilizers and do not directly increase soil fertility by adding nutrients but instead promote natural processes and synthesize growth-promoting substances that stimulate plant growth. The value of this book includes: Assessing the current research about and developments in the understanding of biofertilizers. Focusing on the practical study of microbial inoculants through the technology involved in their manufacture and the methods used for mass production, distribution, and commercial delivery of the product to farmers. Systematically considering the microorganisms that are used as biofertilizers and how they influence certain processes (e.g. in nitrogen fixation, iron sequestration, and phosphate solubilization) to make complex organic molecules available for plants. Contributing to the wider understanding of organic farming as a sustainable production system that can improve environmental quality and human health. As part of the Agrifood Waste Series, this book demonstrates how biofertilizers from agrifood waste are an ideal candidate to replace chemical fertilizers and promote more sustainable agriculture. It provides readers with a comprehensive overview of the various processes that occur to turn microbial structures into biofertilizers before they are applied in the field.

Albrecht Wellmer unternimmt in seinem Buch den Versuch, Grundideen der Diskursethik aus dem Zusammenhang einer Konsenstheorie der Wahrheit, in dem sie bei Apel und Habermas stehen, herauszulösen und neu zu formulieren. Dies bedeutet zugleich eine partielle Rehabilitierung Kants wie auch eine Veränderung der Stoßrichtung der Kritik an Kant. Es soll nicht eine neue Moralphilosophie begründet werden, es sollen vielmehr Grundintuitionen der Kantischen und der an Kant anknüpfenden Moralphilosophie in einen engen Zusammenhang gebracht werden. Auf diese Weise soll gezeigt werden, daß die universalistische Ethik nicht auf die Möglichkeit einer Letztbegründung und nicht auf die Perspektive eines letzten Konsenses angewiesen ist. Durch die Herauslösung der Ethik aus dem Zusammenhang absolutistischer Begründungs- und Versöhnungsperspektiven soll zugleich die Möglichkeit eröffnet werden, die Frage nach dem Zusammenhang der verschiedenen Rationalitätsdimensionen - wissenschaftlich-technische, ästhetische, moralisch-praktische Rationalität - in einer neuen Weise zu stellen.

Insbesondere die grandiose narrative Syntheseleistung, die Hegel mit seiner Geschichtsphilosophie gelingt, provoziert nach wie vor eine Antwort auf diese Frage. Und so ist es der große Epiker Hegel, der sich in das Gewand der philosophischen Systematik kleidet, den Albrecht Koschorke in den Mittelpunkt seiner Frankfurter Adorno-Vorlesungen stellt. In Hinsicht auf den nach 1806 finanziell ruinierten, territorial zersplitterten und auch politisch-kulturell fragmentierten Agrarstaat Preußen, um den sich das System des späteren Hegel zentriert, hat seine philosophische Erzählung einen eher kontrafaktischen als beschreibenden Charakter. Überhaupt ist die Erzeugung schöpferischer Gebilde, die sich dann als politische selbstständig machen, ein generelles Merkmal der Ära der Nationalmythologien – wohingegen symbolische Integration durch Erzählen unter heutigen postnationalen Vorzeichen nur in weit geringerem Ausmaß gelingt. Vor diesem Hintergrund geht es Koschorke nicht zuletzt um die Erzählbedingungen der europäischen Gegenwart. Er zeigt, warum es ein umschließendes, nach innen stark integrierendes Europa-Narrativ, wie es die Politik zumal in Zeiten der Eurokrise fordert, nicht gibt – und auch nicht geben sollte.
