Maintenance of soil fertility and productivity is the dire need of present-day farming as the level of soil organic matter is getting depleted due to over use of inorganic fertilizers, lesser use of organic manures, mono cropping, imbalanced fertilizer use etc. The area under multiple nutrients deficiencies are also increasing in recent years. As a result of degradation and depletion of soil fertility, agricultural production in many regions is now failing to show positive response to increasing agricultural inputs. The Bioresource technology as a bio software can solve many constraints of soils and restore the fertility and productivity of crops. To renew the soil productivity, recycling of crop biomass and application of compost is a viable alternative. There is an absolute need to replenish soil by returning its lost share of organic matter which is recognized as a serious threat to sustainability. Huge amounts of bio resources are available in India which could effectively be recycled. Total amount of crop residue in India is estimated at 350 x 106 kg per year. This book offers 10 chapters which comprises potential benefits of various bioresources for the improvement of soil fertility in terms of physico-chemical properties, macro and micro nutrient availability, soil microbes and enzymes, crop growth, yield and plant nutrient uptake.

This book investigates the pronounced enthusiasm that many traditions display for codes of ethics characterised by a multitude of rules. Recent anthropological interest in ethics and historical explorations of 'self-fashioning' have led to extensive study of the virtuous self, but existing scholarship tends to pass over the kind of morality that involves legalistic reasoning. Rules and ethics corrects that omission by demonstrating the importance of rules in everyday moral life in a variety of contexts. In a nutshell, it argues that legalistic moral rules are not necessarily an obstruction to a rounded ethical self, but can be an integral part of it. An extended introduction first sets out the theoretical basis for studies of ethical systems that are characterised by detailed rules. This is followed by a series of empirical studies of rule-oriented moral traditions in a comparative perspective.

Values-rich journeys can be described as pilgrimage, spiritual travel, personal heritage tourism, holistic tourism, and valuistic journeys. There are many motivations for undertaking values-rich journeys; the most important including personal values, personal and social identity, life experience, lifestyle, social and cultural influence. The main types of pilgrim journeys are traditional religious or spiritual journeys as well as secular journeys related with the expression of national, communal or personal identity, e.g. the journeys of sport and music fans. The manifestation of personal and social identity has different forms and rituals and constitutes different models of a specific behaviour. The journeys are often embraced as potential instruments for life altering experiences. They pose less threat to the environment and to human health than do chemical pesticides. However, despite the enormous potential for biopesticides, their development, commercialisation and use has been slow.The information reported in this book is based on a survey of more than 100 biopesticide research workers in developing countries. The results demonstrate that the main difficulties and constraints facing researchers relate to a lack of expertise in the crucial later stages of development. Biopesticide research is receiving mostly low investment, mainly from the public sector, and requires more multidisciplinary expertise. It is concluded that targeted assistance on a multinational and multi-disciplinary basis is required in developing countries in order to remove the constraints.

David Harrison has contributed to the academic study of tourism over the last thirty years. This book brings together a collection of his published material that reflects the role played by tourism in 'development,' both in societies emerging from Western colonialism and in societies previously part of the Soviet system. The overarching theme looks at how promoted as a tool for development, tourism can lead to conflict between competing elites, but can also empower groups previously subject to constraint by traditional authorities. Tradition is intensely manipulatable and always reflects power relations. Such pressure on tradition is but one aspect of tourism's wider social impacts, which include changes in economic and social structure which, for many, constitute social problems which need to be addressed. At the same time, 'sustainability,' though apparently a worthy aim, can be a problematic concept, especially when applied to 'traditional' cultures, and may conflict with such ideals as egalitarianism.
