        Vyshyvanyi. The King of Ukraine

        by Serhiy Zhadan

Serhiy Zhadan's new book, "Vyshyvanyi. The King of Ukraine", is a story that is always relevant, especially nowadays. It is a story of love for Ukraine. Austrian Archduke Wilhelm Franz von Habsburg-Lothringen, known as Vasyl Vyshyvanyi, played a prominent role in the Ukrainian national liberation movement. Zhadan speaks about the project: "The figure of Vyshyvany is non-trivial, interesting, and deserves all kinds of mentions and study. The coming of Vyshivany to Ukrainianness and acceptance of his identity is not a fictional story. It is interesting to learn how many people are discovering Ukraine, Ukrainian history, Ukrainian culture, and the Ukrainian language." The book has already found its supporters and even received an award in the "Best Book Design 2020" competition, held by the "Book Arsenal" International Festival in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Ukraine. This award is fully justified: the creative tandem of Zhuk&Kelm artistic talent has created a real gem. Designer Nadiya Kelm wrote about the work: "Vyshyvany got his nickname from Ukrainian soldiers because he liked to dress up in embroidered clothes. This was the starting point for the visual concept of the book. We took a very geometric embroidery scheme, which grows with each section, revealing more and more of the portrait of the Vyshyvanyi. The perforated pages allude to the Ukrainian vytynanka (paper cut ornament)".

        Outcasts: Punished by Space

        by Tamara Vronska, Olena Stiazhkina

Minusnyky (outcasts) are a verbal and social creation of the Soviet state, which, through repression, discrimination and control, created communities of "friends" and "foes", branding the latter with punitive methods and forming a specific language to denote them. The book talks about a special category of citizens of the "Soviet country" who were recognized as "socially dangerous" and punished by a ban on settling in a number of areas of the USSR after forced "removal" from their places of permanent residence, as well as serving time in the Gulag system. The researchers analyze the process of constructing the Bolshevik concept of the geographical isolation of the "disloyal" and determine the logic of creating the Soviet space as a space of prohibitions. The regularity of the Soviet territories is analyzed not only as a manifestation of Stalin's repressive policy but also as an organic part of the functioning of the totalitarian mechanism which picked up momentum when the Bolsheviks seized power.

        Femicide

        Violence against women

        by Julia Cruschwitz, Carolin Haentjes

In Germany, 132 women were murdered by their (ex-)partners over the past year, according to police statistics. An attempted murder happened every other day – the real figure is in all probability much higher. Julia Cruschwitz and Carolin Haentjes unveil their book on femicides in Germany with research from interviews with academics, criminologists, police officers, social workers, lawyers, survivors, witnesses and relatives and their analysis of scientific reports. Their work highlights how the issue of femicides affects the whole of society, but there are sensible ways to protect women more effectively from male violence. All we must do is take steps to follow these.

Combinatorial Mechanics of Geometric Occurrences in Parity Based Chemical Theory

        by Francis Rink Donnelly

Acting as a seg-way to a more concentrated state for the advancement of the negative periodic moment; co-lateral transition state efficacy can codify the extreame reaction series that is necessary to carry out the spin (depth, as defined) logistics for the achievement of a negative moment.  Co-Lateral is largely a term used to describe the hypothesized mechanism/structure of the spin retention rates.  The data and scientific conclusions have shown that the Perplexion-Reflection Box is a great way to quantify these results regarding how postive periodicity can become that of negative periodicity or vice-versa.  The theorhetical approach is to deny the transition state entry even after the limits and postioning is set forth. The paged manuscript is unique because no where before has such a simple method for common thought placed numerical analysis and assistance in such a direct exposure.  The term efficacy relates to the confined approaches that each elemental glide pre-supposes.  With information on how the Quad-Plex Ionization Ladder sequences this goal is discussed.

        Data Science for Professionals

        by Prof. N.C. Das

The book is meant for a wide-spectrum of readership-empirical scientists, consultants, technocrats, advertisers, researchers and students learning Data Science for conducting small replicated or non-replicated experiments / demonstrations. It deals with two-factor three-level designs to be conducted only in six experimental units. For this an exhaustive set of 9c6=9c3 = 84 designs have been generated. Least Square algorithm has been applied for estimating separate effect of each component and their interaction along with fitting of response surface; meeting both the objectives for any factorial experiment. Of them seventy-six could be found as valid or estimable designs and the rest as non-estimable ones. Value of the determinant obtained for Least Square Matrix for each such design has been the indicator of its D-optimality status: the same could also be obtained from geometric structure of the designs. Such exhaustive search ascertains (8+4) D-optimal designs; of them only (1+3) are hitherto known. Also, rotatable feature of any such design does not affect its D-optimality status. A simple method SAME has been devised to meet the said twin objectives, thus escaping matrix formation and related operations. Each such design could be combined to form pair of replicates or blocks of an experiment so as to fetch statistical significance test based on ANOVA and fitting the response surface.

        LINEAR ALGEBRA

        A GEOMETRIC APPROACH

        by KUMARESAN, S.

This clear, concise and highly readable text is designed for a first course in linear algebra and is intended for undergraduate courses in mathematics. It focusses throughout on geometric explanations to make the student perceive that linear algebra is nothing but analytic geometry of n dimensions. From the very start, linear algebra is presented as an extension of the theory of simultaneous linear equations and their geometric interpretation is shown to be a recurring theme of the subject. The integration of abstract algebraic concepts with the underlying geometric notions is one of the most distinguishing features of this book — designed to help students in the pursuit of multivariable calculus and differential geometry in subsequent courses. Explanations and concepts are logically presented in a conversational tone and well-constructed writing style so that students at a variety of levels can understand the material and acquire a solid foundation in the basic skills of linear algebra. Key FeaturesEntices students to geometric way of thinking about linear algebra.Includes about 100 solved examples for consolidation of the important concepts introduced.Gives about 400 exercises of various levels of difficulty to prepare students for original thinking.   Google Preview: https://bit.ly/3AYZXKb

        Motion, Control, and Geometry

        Proceedings of a Symposium

by Board on Mathematical Sciences, National Research Council

Some of the modem developments described in Motion, Control, and Geometry include the geometric control of robot motion and craft orientation, how high-power precision micromotors are engineered for less invasive surgery and self-focusing lens applications, what a mobile robot on a surface has in common with one moving in three dimensions, and how the motion-control problem is simplified by a coupled oscillator's geometric grouping of degrees of freedom and motion time scales. The four papers in these proceedings provide a view through the scientific portal of today's motion-control geometric research into tomorrow's technology. The mathematics needed to carry out this research is that of modem differential geometry, and the questions raised in the field of motion-control geometry go directly to the research frontier. Geometry is a mathematical area too often neglected nowadays in a student's education. This publication will help adjust the control initially imposed about 2,300 years ago on one kind of "motion"- that of students entering Plato's Academy, where the following caveat was inscribed above the doorway: "Let no one ignorant of geometry enter here." Readers of these chapters will gain an appreciation of modem geometry and how it continues to play a crucial role in the context of motion control in cutting-edge science and technology.

      • Topology of Numbers

        by Allen Hatcher

2022; 341 pp MSC: Primary 11   This book serves as an introduction to number theory at the undergraduate level, emphasizing geometric aspects of the subject. The geometric approach is exploited to explore in some depth the classical topic of quadratic forms with integer coefficients, a central topic of the book. Quadratic forms of this type in two variables have a very rich theory, developed mostly by Euler, Lagrange, Legendre, and Gauss during the period 1750–1800. In this book their approach is modernized by using the splendid visualization tool introduced by John Conway in the 1990s called the topograph of a quadratic form. Besides the intrinsic interest of quadratic forms, this theory has also served as a stepping stone for many later developments in algebra and number theory. The book is accessible to students with a basic knowledge of linear algebra and arithmetic modulo n. Some exposure to mathematical proofs will also be helpful. The early chapters focus on examples rather than general theorems, but theorems and their proofs play a larger role as the book progresses.   Readership Undergraduate students interested in number theory who appreciate geometric pictures of mathematical objects.
