        Heal Yourself with Sunlight

        by Andreas Moritz

As the current Covid-19 crises persist, almost all governments are enforcing quarantine and lockdown, and public gatherings are being discouraged. Health officials took the same approach 100 years ago when the influenza was spreading around the world. The results were mixed. However, the experiences of the 1918 pandemic suggest one effective technique for dealing with the influenza: the open air and sun exposure treatment. The disinfecting power of nature --- fresh air and sunlight --- were amply proven potent, effective, and free through the hard-won experiences of Boston’s open-air hospital’s experiences in which they found severely ill flu patients nursed outdoors recovered better than those treated indoors. Putting infected patients out in the sun may have helped because it inactivates the influenza virus. It also kills bacteria that cause lung and other infections in hospitals. But what they did not know in 1918 was that the sunlight can also synthesize Vitamin D, low levels of which are linked to respiratory infections and susceptibility to influenza. Unfortunately open-air treatment had been replaced by antibiotic therapy before scientists were able to discover and confirm sunlight’s natural healing power. In this title, Andreas Moritz provided scientific evidence that sunlight is essential for good health, and that a lack of sun exposure can be held responsible for many of today’s ailments. Sunlight is a nutrient, a medicine, a remedy, all at once. It is not some bottled compound you can find at a drug store alone. It is naturally available to everyone. The dosage is under your control and your body easily tells you when you have had just about the right amount of it. Unfortunately, even though sunlight is readily available all through the day, many people fail to profit from it. Read this book to learn how you can harness sunlight, nature’s most potent and curative powers, for maintaining good health.

        Cabin Fever

Surviving Lockdown in the Coronavirus Pandemic

by Paul Crawford, Jamie Orion Crawford

Cabin fever occurs at sea, on land, in the air, in space. Principally, it occurs in our minds. This fascinating book examines ‘cabin fever’ in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and the greatest confinement of people to their homes in history. The book outlines the origins and history of cabin fever, in particular, how this psychological folk syndrome emerged out of the affliction of physical infection, notably in the case of typhus, which spread from the overcrowded, rural cabins of Ireland in the Great Famine to the pioneering frontiers of North America. It was here that the notion of a psychological ‘fever’ or restlessness began to replace the actual physical fever of typhus, as pioneers took to cabins for long periods, especially during winter months. Similar syndromes, with different names, emerged in other challenging or remote regions. The book explores the evidence of mental decline caused by prolonged or extreme social isolation, in particular what we learn from penal history and solitary confinement as well as the importance of social connectivity in maintaining good mental health. Accounts from literature, memoir, and reportage reveal the fascinating and sometimes frightening aspects of the phenomenon. We are all learning how to live with lockdown and may have to do so long into the future. This book provides an account of the chief antidotes for cabin fever.

        Anything Can Be Healed

        by Martin Brofman

This title offers a healer's tutorial and reference. It is also a user's manual for the body/mind interface through the chakras (energy centres) described in Eastern traditions, as explained with Western concepts of psychology. The physical body is seen as a mirror of the consciousness within, and specific tensions on the physical level are seen as reflecting correspondingly specific tensions in the conscious about specific issues in the life of the individual experiencing the symptoms.;Each symptom is associated with a particular way of being, a particular personality profile, in the same way that heart disease is associated with type "A" behaviour. The "way of being" reflects as stressed way in which the individual interacts with his or her environment and which is actually the inner cause to the outer symptom. Healing the symptom, then, involves not only releasing the tension on the physical level, but also the cause, by letting go of the stressful way of interacting with the environment. The process of healing thus implies a process of transformation.;This book deals with the various elements of the healing process, including transformation, and is of interest to those wishing to be healed, as well as those wishing to use these concepts to understand and help others. The methods used are compatible with all philosophies and all religions. This is a Westernized system, in that there are no secret symbols and no one to call "master" - only tools that anyone can easily use.

        Healing Logics

Culture and Medicine in Modern Health Belief Systems

        by Erika Brady

Scholars in folklore and anthropology are more directly involved in various aspects of medicine—such as medical education, clinical pastoral care, and negotiation of transcultural issues—than ever before. Old models of investigation that artificially isolated "folk medicine," "complementary and alternative medicine," and "biomedicine" as mutually exclusive have proven too limited in exploring the real-life complexities of health belief systems as they observably exist and are applied by contemporary Americans. Recent research strongly suggests that individuals construct their health belief systmes from diverse sources of authority, including community and ethnic tradition, education, spiritual beliefs, personal experience, the influence of popular media, and perception of the goals and means of formal medicine. Healing Logics explores the diversity of these belief systems and how they interact—in competing, conflicting, and sometimes remarkably congruent ways. This book contains essays by leading scholars in the field and a comprehensive bibliography of folklore and medicine.

        Traditional Herbal Medicines

A Guide to Their Safer Use

by Lakshman Karalliedde, Rita Fitzpatrick, Debbie Shaw

The part played by traditional medicines in our health care continues to increase year on year. Used for many centuries, they have the reputation of being gentler, less invasive, and more 'natural' than modern western prescription medicines. However, for individuals seeking care that includes traditional medicines there are in fact many risks. While the toxic profiles of western medicines have been precisely and extensively documented and publicised, the harmful effects of traditional medicines taken on their own, or often in combination with western medicines, are not well enough known to ensure safe use.In this highly structured compendium, Dr Lakshman Karalliedde brings together what is currently known and has been scientifically validated regarding traditional medicines from around the world. Covering Chinese, Afro-Caribbean, Unani and Ayurvedic traditional medicines, this book describes the sources of these medicines, their known effects and side-effects, recommended dosages, and, very importantly, precautions.Every practitioner prescribing traditional medicines to their patients should have a copy of this book. Individuals who seek the help of complementary therapists and take these medicines will also want to have a copy for reference.
