The Happy Hedgerow
by Elena Mannion and Erin Brown
Description
Illustrated by the incredible talent that is Erin Brown, in a rich and detailed pallette, The Happy Hedgerow is a charming tale of harmony, loss and then hope for the future. Old Oak lives in a hedgerow on the edge of a barley field, and many creatures are protected by his long, strong branches. His friend, Beech, lives in the opposite hedgerow. One day, an angry farmer decides to destroy Beech's hedgerow, as it is inconvenient for his machines. The field thus becomes larger and windier, and the top soil is blown away. Old Oak watches sadly as the soil runs down the hill when it rains: there is no longer a natural barrier. Hope is finally restored when a new farmer buys the farm, and replants the hedgerow. The field will be a happy home once more.
