Pierro della Francesca. A conversion of the eye
by Franck Mercier
Description
This work returns to one of the best-kept pictorial enigmas of the Italian Renaissance: the painting known as the Flagellation of Christ, painted by Piero della Francesca in the mid-fifteenth century. By investigating from the inside of the painting, Franck Mercier highlights the originality of a pictorial approach that closely combines the new rigours of a mathematical perception of space with strong spiritual demands, influenced by Saint Augustine and Nicholas of Cues.
