Author Biography
Laura Boswell is a printmaker specialising in landscape. In 2009 she was one of six Western artists selected to attend a unique residencey in Japan to learn traditional Japanese water-based woodblock. She learnt from master printers and carvers - craftsmen still wokring to the Edo Period's exacting standards. In 2013 she return to Japan for a 5-week residency where she collaborated with contemporary Japanese woodblock artists, pushing the boundaries of the technique. Laura divides her time between printmaking, commissioned work, writing and teaching. Her extensive teaching experience in Japanese woodblock has enabled her to break the process down into simple steps, which have been captured effectively by her husband Ben Boswell, a professional photographer.
