View Rights PortalOver the last three decades, Morocco has had a remarkable journey to economic stability and development. Still, Morocco’s quest for strong, resilient, and inclusive growth is far from complete. After accelerating in the first decade of the new millennium, income convergence with advanced economies has slowed over the last 15 years. And the benefits of economic development remain elusive for a significant part of Morocco’s population, particularly young people and women, given their high unemployment rate and the presence of a still-large informal sector. This book provides a broad overview of both Morocco’s economic progress in the past few decades and its economic modernization agenda going forward. To a certain extent, Morocco’s story is a useful example for many developing economies still in search of building the foundations of macroeconomic stability. The series of reforms that the country has begun to implement provides equally interesting ideas for all countries engaged in the quest for stronger and more inclusive growth.
The book highlights, with practical examples, the potential of isotope techniques in water resources development and management. It starts with a description of isotope characteristics as well as their relevance as tracers in studies on various stages of the hydrological cycle. The book covers applications of both environmental isotopes and injected tracers to surface water and groundwater bodies as well as their interrelationships. In view of the importance of identification of groundwater recharge and recharge processes, due emphasis is given to this aspect of application of environmental isotopes. Role of isotopes in understanding groundwater contamination from natural pollutants like inland salinity, arsenic and nitrate is discussed with examples.
