Er kam – wie er in »Dichtung und Wahrheit« schreibt – „für tot auf die Welt“, und seine erste sinnliche Erfahrung waren der Geruch und die lebenserweckende Wirkung des Weins, mit dem er eingerieben wurde. In einer „Wein-Biographie“ gehen die Herausgeber Goethes Erfahrungen mit dem “süßen Saft der Reben“ nach. Every one wants a piece of the American pie, but the price gradually dawns on the blue-eyed immigrants, as they discover simmering racial divides and unrest over the Vietnam war, and watch the terrifying assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy on the nightly news. The American dream is bittersweet.
