The European or Mediterranean cultivated olive (Olea europaea L., subsp. europaea, var. europaea) is one of the most ancient cultivated fruit tree crops. Today, hundreds of olive varieties are grown to produce high-quality fruit for oil and for table olives consumption. The olive industry has undergone profound innovations in the past 30 years, due to scientific and technical advances, particularly in genomics, breeding, orchard management, mechanization and agro-ecology, although not all these developments are yet available to smaller producers. Olive cultivation has also spread to many countries outside the Mediterranean Basin, where it ihas been traditionally present for over 6,000 years. These new olive-growing countries are experiencing further expansion of the industry, due to increased awareness of the nutritional and health properties of extra virgin olive oil. Sara Paretsky is known for her influential V.I. Warshawski series, which transformed the masculine hard-boiled detective formula into a vehicle for feminist values. But Paretsky does more than this. Die Klassik Stiftung Weimar besitzt einen einmaligen Bestand von eigenhändigen Zeichnungen Goethes – ein Schatz, der nach aufwendiger Restaurierung erstmals wieder in der Öffentlichkeit gezeigt wird: Im Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid wird von Ende Januar bis Ende April 2008 eine repräsentative Auswahl von über 70 Landschaftszeichnungen ausgestellt. Das Buch zu dieser Ausstellung enthält alle ausgestellten Bilder und erscheint parallel auf deutsch im Insel Verlag. Im historischen Teil seiner Farbenlehre kommt Goethe auch – in einer "Konfession des Verfassers" – auf sich selbst zu sprechen: "Ich war in einsamen Stunden früherer Zeit auf die Natur aufmerksam geworden, wie sie sich als Landschaft zeigt, und hatte, da ich von Kindheit auf in den Werkstätten der Maler aus und ein ging, Versuche gemacht, das, was mir in der Wirklichkeit erschien, so gut es sich schicken wollte, in ein Bild zu verwandeln; ja ich fühlte hiezu, wozu ich eigentlich keine Anlage hatte, einen weit größern Trieb als zu demjenigen, was mir von Natur leicht und bequem war." Das zeichnerische Werk Goethes steht also zumindest zeitweise mit im Zentrum von Goethes Schaffen. Essays von Javier Arnaldo, Werner Hofmann, Petra Maisak, Margarete Oppel und anderen vertiefen den Eindruck, den Goethes Landschaften hinterlassen, und stellen sie in ihren lebens- und werkgeschichtlichen Kontext.

Sein Leben läuft wie ein Film an ihm vorüber. Ist er selbst auch ein Mörder, oder schreibt er sich diese Rolle nur zu? Albert Ostermaiers erster Roman ist ein faszinierendes Vexierspiel, erzählt im raschen Perspektivenwechsel, ein rasantes Gegenstück zum "Film Noir", ein dunkler Liebessong, dessen Rhythmus und Refrain den Leser in den Sog einer Geschichte ziehen.
