Convertible
by Åshild Norun
It's 1967, and a young Norwegian family leaves Norway for California, looking for opportunity and the free and easy lifestyle. The young immigrants settle in a nice house in the suburb. The couple both find jobs, and the twin girls go to school. Dad buys a convertible, just like mom always wanted. She invites her three siblings for a Christmas visit. Two of them stay on, and the younger sister finds an American boyfriend. Every one wants a piece of the American pie, but the price gradually dawns on the blue-eyed immigrants, as they discover simmering racial divides and unrest over the Vietnam war, and watch the terrifying assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy on the nightly news. The American dream is bittersweet.

Why I can't like him/her?
by Anna Claudia Ramos, Antônio Schimeneck
Adolescence is a time of many doubts, anxieties and uncertainties. In this phase, sexuality is unfolding, and we are going through — because everyone has gone, is going or will go through — self-questions about all conditions, all desires, including regarding sexuality. If on the one hand, we see in beautiful social networks beautiful movements of self-acceptance and discovery, on the other hand we live in a time of great obscurantism and attempt to cage the desires and contain the experiences of young people – whether at home or at school, and unfortunately, many times, with public authority initiative. This book asks this of young people, who often find themselves trapped by a cultural need (or family pressure) to create heteronormative bonds, when, in fact, they feel the desire for people of the same sex. But this book also understands that it is necessary to take this issue to the world, so that everyone reflects on otherness, sexuality and, mainly, the many possibilities of affection and desire. Por que não consigo gostar dele/dela? is a book with two sides, two covers, four stories and many testimonials.

The Marvels of the World
Die Reisen des Ritters Jean de Mandeville
by Jean de Mandeville
The Livre de Mandeville (Book of Mandeville) is integrated into a composite manuscript - held today at the Bibliothèque national de France under the shelfmark Fr. 2810 - containing a number of texts about the countries of the Middle and Far East which was given the name Livre de merveilles, on account of the wonders described therein, but also because of its wonderful decorations. The author, Jean de Mandeville, refers to himself as a knight who embarked on his journey in the year 1322 and that he travelled not only to see the sites of the Holy Land, but also to countless far countries of the world and many wondrous regions. By combining seemingly familiar elements with mysterious narratives, he achieves an immediacy and freshness that would be enthusiastically welcomed by a wide readership. It is not only the enthusiastic reception of the text, but also the development of a rich iconographic programme that make the Livre de Mandeville such an impressive example of medieval world and travel literature and the most dazzling work representative of the genre.
