        Friedrich Nietzsche wurde am 15. Oktober 1844 in Röcken bei Lützen als Sohn eines Pastors geboren. Er studierte in Bonn und Leipzig zunächst Sprachwissenschaften und evangelische Theologie, seinen Abschluß machte er jedoch nur in klassischer Philologie. 1868 lernte er Richard Wagner kennen, der sein Denken neben Schopenhauer stark beeinflußte. Einige Jahre später zerbrach die Freundschaft über Nietzsches Geringschätzung der Bayreuther Festspiele. 1869 wurde er auf eine Professur für Altphilologie nach Basel berufen, die er aus gesundheitlichen Gründen zehn Jahre später wieder aufgab. Fortan lebte er von seiner Pension und finanzierte davon viele Reisen, u.a. in die Schweiz und nach Italien, auf denen seine wichtigsten philosophischen Werke entstanden. In seinen Hauptwerken sagte Nietzsche den Tod Gottes voraus, beschrieb den Übermenschen, trat für die Umwertung aller Werte ein und prägte somit den Nihilismus. Zu seinen bekanntesten Werken zählen Also sprach Zarathustra (1883) und Ecce Homo (1908). In den 1880er Jahren nahmen seine körperlichen und seelischen Leiden zu und gipfelten 1889 in einem Zusammenbruch, von dem er sich nicht mehr erholte. Bis zu seinem Tod am 25. August 1900 in Weimar wurde er von seiner Mutter und seiner Schwester gepflegt. Dieter Borchmeyer, geboren 1941, ist Professor emeritus an der Universität Heidelberg, war Präsident der Bayerischen Akademie der Schönen Künste und lehrt im Rahmen der Stiftungsdozentur »Heidelberger Vorträge zur Kulturtheorie« weiterhin an der Universität Heidelberg. Borchmeyers Arbeitsfeld ist vor allem die deutsche Literatur vom 18. bis 20. Jahrhundert und das Musiktheater mit Monographien zu Goethe, Schiller, Mozart, Wagner und Nietzsche. Zuletzt erschien von ihm Was ist deutsch? (2017).         Richard Brome was the leading comic playwright of 1630s London. Starting his career as a manservant to Ben Jonson, he wrote a string of highly successful comedies which were influential in British theatre long after Brome's own playwriting career was cut short by the closure of the theatres in 1642. This book offers the first full-length chronological account of Brome's life and works, drawing on a wide range of recently rediscovered manuscript sources. It traces the early hostility to Brome from those who wrote him off as a mere servant; his continuing struggles with plague closures, contract disputes and theatrical takeover bids; and his literary relationships with Jonson, Shakespeare and others. Each of the surviving plays is discussed in relation to its social and political context, and its sense of place.         Theodor Storm wurde am 14. September 1817 in Husum bei Schleswig geboren und starb am 4. Juli 1888 in Hademarschen bei Holst an Magenkrebs. Von 1837 bis 1842 studierte er Jura in Kiel und nahm ein Jahr später eine Stelle als Advokat in Husum an. 1846 heiratete er seine Cousine Konstanze Esmarch. Mit ihr hatte er sieben Kinder; bei der Geburt des letzten Kindes starb Konstanze. Kurz nach seiner Hochzeit lernte Storm Dorothea Jensen kennen, mit der ihn eine leidenschaftliche Beziehung verband und die er als Witwer in zweiter Ehe heiratete. Aus politischen Gründen wurde er 1852 aus dem Amt entlassen und war fortan als unbesoldeter Assessor im preußischen Staatsdienst in Potsdam tätig. Er begegnete Franz Kugler, Theodor Fontane, Joseph von Eichendorff und Paul Heyse. Ab 1856 war er Richter in Heiligenstadt und ab 1864 Landvogt in Husum. 1874 wurde er Oberamtsrichter und ab 1879 Amtsgerichtsrat. Storm gilt als einer der bedeutendsten deutschen Vertreter des bürgerlichen bzw. poetischen Realismus, wobei neben seinen Gedichten besonders seine Novellen seinen Ruhm begründeten.

Drawing on the conceptualisation of translocational gendered urban violence framework, it highlights the importance of examining direct forms of gender-based violence across private, public and transnational spheres as interlinked with structural, symbolic and infrastructural violence. The book also explores the embodied and spatialised nature of gendered urban violence, explored through artistic engagements and arts-based methods. In developing a translocational feminist tracing methodological and epistemological approach across the social sciences and the arts, the book argues for the importance of a collaborative approach among academic, civil society organisations, artists and creative researchers with a view to engendering empathetic transformation to address gendered urban violence in the long-term.

It identifies strategies through which pastor-authors established authorial identities, targeted different sorts of audiences and strategically selected genre and content as intentional parts of their clerical vocation. The first study to provide a book-length analysis of the phenomenon of early modern pastors writing for print, it uses a case study of prolific pastor-author Richard Bernard to offer a new lens through which to view religious change in this pivotal period. By bringing together questions of print, genre, religio-politics and theology, the book will interest scholars and postgraduate students in history, literature and theological studies, and its readability will appeal to undergraduates and non-specialists.

        Richard Rorty (1931-2007) war einer der bedeutendsten angelsächsischen Philosophen seiner Generation. Er wurde in der Tradition der analytischen Philosophie ausgebildet, wandte sich aber Stück für Stück von dieser ab und entwickelte eine einflussreiche Spielart des Pragmatismus. Richard McKay Rorty wird am 4. Oktober 1931 in New York City geboren und kommt früh mit im weitesten Sinne linken und progressiven Ideen in Berührung. Im Alter von 14 Jahren beginnt er ein Philosophiestudium in Chicago, 1956 promoviert er an der Yale University. Von 1958 bis 1961 ist Rorty Assistant Professor am Wellesley College, danach hat er bis 1982 eine Professur für analytische Philosophie an der Princeton University inne. 1979 erscheint sein bekanntestes Werk, Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature (dt. Der Spiegel der Natur), in dem er zahlreiche klassische Fragen der Philosophie einer scharfen Kritik unterzieht; zugleich wendet er sich verstärkt kulturellen und politischen Fragen zu. Als Konsequenz dieser Kehrtwende verlässt Rorty 1982 Princeton und geht als Kenan Professor of the Humanities an die University of Virginia, ab 1998 schließlich lehrt er Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft an der Stanford University. Am 8. Juni 2007 stirbt Richard Rorty in Palo Alto, Kalifornien.
