Tadeusz Kowalik lived through ten decades and three economic and political systems in Poland. He combined his academic study of economic ideas with his socialist ideals of building a fairer and more just society. This book covers the intellectual and political work of Kowalik, within the context of modern Polish history. Kowalik was part of a Polish School of critical left-wing political economists, that included Michal Kalecki and Oskar Lange. Kowalik contributed to the body of work produced by this group, which included his interpretation of their work. Kowalik participated in some of the most momentous events in post-war Polish history, helping to organise a group of intellectuals to advise the shipyard workers at the Gdansk shipyards in 1980. He became a vehement opponent of Poland's neoliberal form of capitalism and left a body of work that illuminates our understanding of capitalism and socialism today.

Das Vertrauen in Politik und Parteien ist auf einem historischen Tiefstand, die Protestbewegung des Kabarettisten Beppe Grillo wurde bei den Parlamentswahlen zur zweitstärksten Partei; Matteo Renzi, von den Medien als Hoffnungsträger gefeiert, kungelt mit seinem skandalumwitterten Vorgänger Berlusconi und feiert den ehemaligen englischen Premierminister Tony Blair als Vorbild, obwohl dieser in seiner Heimat längst zur persona non grata geworden ist. In seinem vielbeachteten Essay präsentiert der Historiker Perry Anderson eine Chronologie des italienischen Desasters. Italien betrachtet er dabei nicht als »Anomalie innerhalb Europas, sondern als eine Art Konzentrat« der Probleme eines Kontinents, der zunehmend von Entdemokratisierung, Korruption und Wachstumsschwäche gekennzeichnet ist.

The first and the most diverse edition of the selected works of the famous poet, laureate of the Shevchenko National Literary Prize of Ukraine collected under the title “The Window that Flies”. It includes all the best that was written by the author on the eve of his sixtieth birthday. The ancient world of native mythology and fairy tales comes to life in the work of the most prominent post-sixties poet Vasyl Holoborodko. Probably, this search for something nationally specific, which stretched on for years continues to this day.
