        Veterinary Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Diagnosis

        Clinical Pathology and laboratory Diagnosis are often required to be in one location to assist veterinarians and disease investigation experts in their routine work. The development of rapid and specific diagnostic tools for various animal diseases is an important area of focus for clinicians. Traditional methods for diagnosing infectious diseases involve isolating, growing, and identifying the infectious agent from clinical samples, which requires well-equipped and well-staffed pathological laboratories. These methods can take days to weeks and may not provide an early diagnosis, which can be crucial for managing the disease. While isolation and identification of the microorganism can provide an unambiguous diagnosis, the success rate is limited. An alternative approach is to detect seroconversions to particular microorganisms, which can be diagnostically important. Enzyme immunoassay has become a popular tool for detecting humoral immune responses or microbial antigens for diagnostic purposes. Additionally, this book provides regulatory and safety requirements for the first time for veterinary disease investigation. Field veterinarians can use this information in their daily routine work to diagnose diseases, identify causative agents, and recommend effective therapeutic and preventive measures to control livestock and poultry diseases.

        Genetic Improvement of Livestock and Poultry

Various conventional breeding technologies used for selection and faster multiplication of superior cattle and buffalo germplasm have contributed significantly to increase in milk production, which were mainly due to the technologies developed in the areas of quantitative genetics and reproductive biology. These included methodologies for selection of females based upon their expected producing ability and young males based on the performance of progeny. Emerging developments in the areas of molecular marker systems in animals, genome maps, methods of detecting Quantitative Trait Loci (QTL) linkages, Marker Assisted Selection (MAS) etc., are latest tools to be used in breeding programmes for enhancing the rate of genetic progress. These modern techniques could be of great help for those traits, for which the conventional technologies have limitations in their use. Therefore, integration of molecular markers with conventional breeding technologies involving pedigree and phenotypic information are probable future breeding tools for genetic improvement of livestock and poultry.

Obwohl er selbst der Sikhreligion angehört, hat er eine heimliche Liebschaft mit einem muslimischen Mädchen. Eines Tages hält zu einer ungewöhnlichen Zeit ein Zug in Mano Majra. Etwas Unheilvolles, etwas Gespenstisches geht von ihm aus: Der Zug ist voll mit Leichen ermordeter Sikhs. Das Grauen hat auch Mano Majra erreicht, jetzt zählt auch hier nur noch, wer welcher Religion angehört. Der Roman erschien erstmals 1956, heute ist er in Indien ein Klassiker. Khushwant Singh erzählt anhand von zahlreichen Einzelschicksalen in erschütternder Weise von der größten politischen,, sozialen, menschlichen Katastrophe Indiens, vom abrupten Wandel einer friedlichen Welt in die Hölle des Krieges, der noch heute grausame Nachwirkungen zeigt: im Kaschmirkonflikt, in blutigen Ausschreitungen zwischen den Religionsgruppen, in der Zerstörung von Moscheen und Tempeln.
