TAMER Institute for Community Education is an educational non-governmental non for profit organization established in 1989 as a natural and necessary response to the urgent needs of the Palestinian community during the first intifada (uprising). The most important of these is the need to acquire means to help people learn and become productive. Focusing principally on the rights to education, identity, freedom of expression, and access to information,Tamer works across the West Bank and Gaza Strip, primarily targeting children and young adults to encourage and deepen opportunities of learning among them. Our program aims to contribute to enhancing reading, writing and all forms of Expression among children and young adults. It also aims at contributing to a Palestinian environment that is supportive to learning processes, and at supporting the literary and scholar production on child culture in Palestine.

At a time when payment is claiming a greater place than ever before within the NHS, this book provides the first in-depth investigation of the workings, scale and meaning of payment in British hospitals before the NHS. There were only three decades in British history when it was the norm for patients to pay the hospital; those between the end of the First World War and the establishment of the National Health Service in 1948. Payment played an important part in redefining rather than abandoning medical philanthropy, based on class divisions and the notion of financial contribution as a civic duty. With new insights on the scope of private medicine and the workings of the means test in the hospital, as well as the civic, consumer and charitable meanings associated with paying the hospital, Gosling offers a fresh perspective on healthcare before the NHS and welfare before the welfare state.

Art and Citizenship in Conflict examines the work of women war artists in order to highlight the complexity of citizenship and gender in Britain during the Second World War. Evelyn Dunbar, Mary Kessell, Ethel Gabain, Stella Schmolle, and Laura Knight, among others, were commissioned by the War Artists' Advisory Committee (WAAC) to document the millions of women who took up sometimes unconventional roles-in agriculture, the auxiliary services, and manufacturing, among others-to support the British war effort. Indeed, their prints, drawings, and paintings were part of a broader scheme to uphold morale and promote much-needed citizen involvement on the home front. While there is growing interest, the importance of their remit in the history of the Second World War and the quality of their artistry have nonetheless not yet secured them a significant place in scholarship. Art and Citizenship in Conflict seeks to amend this gap while also broadening approaches to the study of war itself.

Oceans and other wetlands cover approximately 70% of the Earth's surface and represent some of the most vital and dynamic ecosystems on the planet. These aquatic environments provide essential functions that support both planetary and human well-being - from regulating climate through carbon sequestration and influencing weather patterns, to sustaining biodiversity and supplying food and livelihoods to billions of people. They act as buffers against extreme weather events, nurseries for marine life, and crucial components of global nutrient and water cycles. Despite their critical role, however, oceans and wetlands remain underrepresented in the One Health discourse, which traditionally focuses more on terrestrial ecosystems such as rainforests, agricultural zones, and urban environments. The resilience of these aquatic systems is therefore deeply interlinked with human and animal health and marine pollution. Overfishing, climate-induced ocean acidification, and the spread of aquatic-borne diseases are all pressing issues that have direct and indirect impacts on public health, food security, and socio-economic stability - particularly for coastal and island communities. Recognizing oceans and wetlands as central components of the One Health framework is therefore essential for developing holistic and effective strategies to address public health challenges, and integrating One Health into research, policy, and practice is scientifically necessary and crucial for achieving long-term sustainability and resilience in a rapidly changing world. This book addresses that disparity of integration and tackles the main concepts of One Health using aquatic environments. It thus covers: - Definitions of One Health concepts and the use of One Health in practice; - The value of water-based environments and their importance in the implementation of One Health programs; - Important cross-sectoral topics such as epidemiology, health economics and statistics, biosecurity, governmental policy, food security, and underreported zoonoses. This textbook explores the interconnectedness between aquatic ecosystems and human health through the lens of the One Health approach. It also aligns with a number of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and has been written as an accessible resource for students, researchers, and practitioners working within the One Health framework.

Medicinal plants and the natural products within them, still remain the starting point for breakthroughs in the development of safe, pharmacologically active synthetic molecules for use in a wide variety of clinical situations. Traditional Persian Medicine (TPM) is one of the most ancient medical doctrines, and is well-documented in terms of information about diseases, diagnoses and treatments, especially by the application of medicinal plants. TPM has been used for centuries worldwide, and many of these methods are still used in Iran today. This book introduces the basics of TPM, and describes the key medicinal plants which are used for the treatment of different diseases. It also creates possible new targets for research activities in drug discovery of natural products. The book is richly illustrated with coloured figures of historic drawings from old Persian pharmacopoeia and photos of plants in their natural habitats. References to Ayurvedic, Traditional Chinese Medicine and to monastic medicine in Europe are also made. Knowledge about medicinal plants used in TPM still exists in Iran, however, there is a risk that the detailed expertise provided by the older generation will be lost in the near future. It is therefore important that this cultural heritage of humanity is properly preserved.
