        Small Animal Veterinary Psychiatry

        by Sagi Denenberg, Ali Thompson

Problem behaviours are often the result of how an animal thinks and feels, genetics, and environmental influences. Steering away from just description diagnoses and focusing instead on emotional and cognitive causes, this book provides a practical approach to diagnosing, treating, and managing behaviour pathologies in dogs and cats. Beginning by addressing cases in the first opinion practice, this book then considers physical disorders that may lead to or exacerbate abnormal behavior. From there, the focus shifts to mental and emotional health, from an assessment of normal behavior and giving juveniles an optimal start in life, to diagnosing mental and emotional disorders, addressing emotions such as anxiety and frustration, and how to manage these issues - by modifying behavior, managing the animal's environment, training, and, when necessary, the use of medications. The second half of the book then addresses owner concerns, including management problems, aggression, affective disorder, elimination disorder, abnormal and repetitive behaviours and ageing-related problems. With an emphasis on helping first line veterinarians identify common presentations and offer help to owners, this book: - Addresses both normal and abnormal behaviour in cats and dogs from an emotion and cognition perspective; - Provides behaviour modification protocols, and drug doses and indications; - Includes handouts to be used both within the practice and with clients to help the veterinary surgeon manage the case. Written by international experts, the book translates their insights and experience into approaches taken in behavioural medicine. Also including the most up-to-date drugs, it is an important resource for both small animal veterinarians and students of veterinary medicine or animal behaviour.

Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) is a subtropical evergreen fruit tree indigenous to China. Records show it has been cultivated in China for over 2000 years. From this beginning, loquat has spread to more than 30 countries around the world. Grown in various regions of Asia, the Mediterranean and across the Americas, loquats suit both temperate and subtropical areas, sharing the same environmental conditions as citrus. Loquat is an increasingly commercial crop in some Asian and European countries with a good amount of international trade. Recent research has focused on improving crop yields and quality. Over 100 different varieties have been developed to meet both growers' and consumers' demands. These developments have contributed to a better understanding of the crop environment, plant growth and physiology of tree and fruit development with implications for both breeding and cultivation. This book is to be the first to provide a comprehensive coverage of the history, physiology, culture and marketing of loquat throughout the world.

        The Geography of your Memory

        by Laia Soler

Ciara has returned to the village where she grew up with one clear aim: she wants to renovate the house her mother left her in her will and use the money made from selling it to start afresh somewhere else, far from that little village in the south of Ireland where rumours are the daily currency and everybody criticises her behind her back. She knows what they say: “what a bad daughter, she abandoned her mother”. However, Ciara cannot escape voices from the past which resurge with every plate she throws out, with every piece of furniture she takes apart and every wall she paints. Each memory, each secret, further distorts what she thought she knew about her family and turns her past into unknown territory. And what if she never knew the truth about her mother? What if she only knew how to see the sad, wrinkled, fragile Edna? When you open doors to the past, you run the risk of not being able to close them.

        The Clay Figurine

by Emma Reyes and Carme Vendré Soler

Booktrailer This story comes from The Book of Emma Reyes: A Memoir in Correspondence, by Colombian painter Emma Reyes. The story, told through the eyes of Emma Reyes, goes back to the day when she, with the help of her friend "el Piojo" and other streetchildren, created General Rebollo with their own hands. The writer thus reveals one of her most distant memories, when she was an orphaned child amid the misery of Bogotá in the 1920s, but she does so with words that convey the sparkle and naivety of a childhood game. It is a moving album, in which Carme Solé Vendrell's spontaneous strokes andtechnical richness enhance the expressiveness of such a collective personage: childhood at its most vulnerable.

Everything You Should Know Before You Love Me

        by Gerard Guix

Novel eligible for translation grants for Catalan novels from the Institut Ramón Llull Recently translated and published in French Pin i Soler de Novel.la awards 2001 A novel, with a very personal poetic style that opens up to the fantastic, therefore has a very broad reading horizon. The readership is female and male, young adults and avid readers. If our lives are like a film, are we actors… or spectators? Five years have passed since Gerard and Anastasia met in London. Five years in which, despite the passion of the first days, they have grown apart until they feel very far from each other, even though they are in the same bed. Now they are about to embark on a journey to the Swiss shore of Lake Geneva. There, in the house where actress Audrey Hepburn spent her last days, Gerard will try to revive his literary career while she desperately tries to save their relationship. Gerard Guix uses humour, suspense and fantasy in this novel, full of love for the cinema, where readers will discover whether it is possible to erase our memories and live without any.Musical, visual, sensual novel, but not a conventional romance. The fantastic atmosphere that gradually imposes itself, the suspense, the psychological precision of the characters but also the humour nourish a reflection on questions such as the power of forgetting to overcome suffering and difficulties, to the point of envisaging a life without memories. The gradual transformation of the story into a magnetic tape that is slowed down, accelerated and listened to in reverse fascinates by its hypnotising power. The last scene is masterful in this respect. The author’s qualities as a dramatist can be seen in his mastery of the rhythm of the story, the setting of the space and the psychological depth of the characters.
