        External Parasites of Small Ruminants

        A Practical Guide to their Prevention and Control

        by Peter Bates

        Sheep and goats are farmed throughout the world for meat, fibre, milk and leather. These small ruminants are very susceptible to external parasites, which has significant implications for their health and welfare as well as the quality and value of the end products for which they are farmed. This book gives practical guidance on preventing and controlling ectoparasites that contribute to disease and infection in sheep and goats, discussing types of parasites, the diseases they cause and what methods of control are available, as well as wider implications such as animal welfare and environmental impacts.

        The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema

        Präsentiert von Slavoj Žižek

        by Slavoj Žižek, Sophie Fiennes

        Slavoj Žižek hat zwei große Leidenschaften: Das Kino und die Psychoanalyse. Was liegt da näher, als Hollywood – das Theater der Träume – auf die Couch zu legen? Für die Regisseurin Sophie Fiennes hat Žižek seine Lieblingsszenen aus etwa vierzig Klassikern (von Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch u. v. a.), ausgewählt, die er in diesem Film – oft an Originalschauplätzen – mit dem begrifflichen Instrumentarium von Freud und Lacan analysiert: Inwiefern korrespondiert die Architektur des Hauses von Norman Bates (»Psycho«) mit Freuds Strukturmodell der Psyche? Was hätte der Entdecker des Ödipus-Komplexes zu dem Konflikt zwischen Luke Skywalker und Darth Vader gesagt? Als »150-minütige Achterbahnfahrt durch die Geschichte von Kino und psychologischer Filmtheorie« bezeichnete die »Frankfurter Rundschau« Žižeks cineastischen Crashkurs, dem Philosophen selbst attestierte sie »beachtliches Starpotenzial.«

        Lancastrian Shakespeare

        by Richard Dutton, Alison Findlay, Richard Wilson, Mary Norris

        Explores the network of social, political and spiritual connections in north west England as a site for regional drama, introducing the reader to the non-metropolitan theatre spaces which formed a vital part of early modern dramatic activity. Uses the possibility that Shakespeare began his theatrical career to provide a range of new contexts for reading his plays. Examines the contexts in which the apprentice dramatist would have worked, providing new insight into regional performance, touring theatre & the patronage of the Earls of Derby. Examines the experiences of Catholic families and the way in which Lancashire's status as a Catholic stronghold led to conflict with central government's attempts to create a united state.. All this feeds into innovative readings of individual plays such as Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream. ;

        The Tragedy of Antigone, The Theban Princesse

        by Thomas May

        by Edited by Matteo Pangallo. Series edited by Paul Dean

        Thomas May's The Tragedy of Antigone (1631), edited by Matteo Pangallo, is the first English treatment of the story made famous by Sophocles. This edition contains a facsimile of the copy held at the Beinecke Library of Yale University, making the play commercially available for the first time since its original publication. The extensive introduction discusses, among other things, the ownership history of existing copies and their marginal annotations, and of the play's topical political implications in the light of May's wavering between royalist and republican sympathies. Writing during the contentious early years of Charles I's reign, May used Sophocles' Antigone to explore the problems of just rule and justified rebellion. He also went beyond the scope of the original, adding content from a wide range of other classical and contemporary plays, poems and other sources, including Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. This volume will be essential reading for advanced students, researchers and teachers of early English drama and seventeenth-century political history.
