Helvetia Editrice
Edizioni Helvetia was born in 1972 from an idea of the poet and musician Gianni Spagnol who, after a six-year experience in Zurich as a printer at an important publishing complex, wanted to found in Venice - between Campo San Rocco and Campo San Tomà, not far from the Frari Church - a printing house/publishing house that would promote and stimulate the historical-literary production of the Venetian and Venetian area in detail. Then, with the 90s, the company was moved to the mainland. In 2006, with the acquisition by its granddaughter Daniela Spagnol, the name changed to Helvetia Editrice and the publications continued to explore themes linked to the territory, especially in the "Rosso Veneziano" series - which gathers historical curiosities, with a "popular" and mainly narrative slant - and the "VeneziaeVenetoVivo" series - more linked to pure historical non-fiction and documentation. Enriched with non-fiction and fiction, since 2019 Helvetia has been back in the game with two series that challenge the usual comfort zone by leaving the local territory: "Taccuini d'Autore" (Author's Notebooks), which collects books on the road, texts that travel and travel along the frontier of writing; and "Nuovi Territori" (New Territories), a line created to enhance new authors and unusual topics from experimental themes.

The Classic of Mountains and Rivers, also known as Shan Hai Jing, has been regarded as a "strange book" since its appearance in China pre-Qin Dynasty. On the basis of its title, most people would assume that it is a survey record of ancient geography, but its descriptions of the "mountains and rivers" include encyclopedic entries—such as animals, plants, minerals, religion, history, medicine, customs, and ethnic groups. Also, it gives accounts of many folk legends of mythic geography, monsters, and witchcraft. No matter labeled as a book of geography, a book of history, or a book of strange stories, it is a Chinese ancient classic that deserves to be read over and over again. But as a book compiled about 2,500 to 3,000 years ago, its context and words are difficult to understand for modern readers. The Classic of Mountains and Rivers for Teenagers series is just designed to make this classic more understandable and readable. It illustrates the most essential parts of the Classic of Mountains and Rivers with simple words, animated illustrations, and interdisciplinary approaches, and introduces young readers to the understandings of Chinese ancestors on land and nature. Not only is it a book series for teenagers, but also an encyclopedia of traditional Chinese geography and culture for adults. Strange Stories of the Vast Universe is the second book of the Classic of Mountains and Rivers for Teenagers series. It tells strange stories that happened in the Earth, the Sea, and the Vast Universe. The world in Classic of Mountains and Rivers is presented in the order of South, West, North and East, where lived many fantastic tribes and incredible animals. Reading it will not only provide readers with features of these existences but also the stories of how they were created and the myths and geography about them.

The Aldine Edition of the Ancient Greek Epistolographers: Roots and Legacy

This special issue of the Bulletin of the John Rylands Library is devoted to the Aldine edition of the Ancient Greek epistolographers. Published in Venice in 1499 by Aldus Manutius, the Aldine edition was the first printed edition of most of the thirty-six Greek letter collections that it contains. As such, it embodies the intersection between the medieval epistolary anthologies that predated it and the printed editions of Greek epistolographic collections that followed, which were primarily based on its text. In recent decades, the Aldien edition has been the subject of important works, which have sought to analyse its contents and sources. This issue explores the Aldine edition from three perspectives: its relationship to the epistolary collections found in medieval manuscripts, its relationship to the printed editions that followed it and its legacy and value for the modern scholar studying Ancient Greek epistolography.
