Es erreicht ihn der Anruf einer jungen Frau. Dies ist der Beginn eines nicht abreißenden Gesprächs, Nacht für Nacht, das bald zur Liebe wird. Aber F., die junge Frau, ist sterbenskrank ... Eine Geschichte über dem Abgrund: dem der Ausweglosigkeit, dem der Finsternis der Nacht, dem der Unüberprüfbarkeit der Identität.»Caesarea« - das ist das einzig Übriggebliebene von einer Geschichte, das einzige Wort, das imstande ist, die Geschichte zu benennen. »Caesarea« ist die Gesamtheit. »Caesarea« ist der Inbegriff des Schmerzes einer Trennung, der nicht aufhören wird: »Ich rufe den, der mir antworten wird.« Negative Hände nennt man die Darstellung von Händen, die in den magdalenischen Höhlen des südatlantischen Europa gefunden wurden. Der Umriß dieser weit geöffnet auf dem Stein ruhenden Hände war farbig übermalt. Zumeist blau, schwarz. Manchmal rot. Für diesen Brauch wurde keine Erklärung gefunden. So wie in »Caesarea« und im Nachtschiff« das Rufen nach dem, der antworten wird, nicht endet, so wird in der dreistufigen Geschichte »Aurelia Steiner« die Suche nach dem, der liebt, nicht enden. Aurelia Steiner schreibt dem, der gemeint ist, unaufhörlich Briefe. Denn er soll irgendwo vor langer Zeit gestorben sein (an der Hitze, an der Pest, am Krieg) oder im Lager des von Deutschen besetzten Polen. Solange sie schreiben wird, ist der andere nicht tot.

The Impact on Food and Energy Prices

Commodity futures prices exploded in 2007-08 and concerns about a new type of participant in commodity futures markets began to emerge. Market participants, regulators, and civic organizations began raising concerns that inflows from new "commodity index" investments were driving the increases in commodity prices instead of economic fundamentals. The main argument was that unprecedented buying pressure from these speculative long-only futures traders created massive bubbles that resulted in prices substantially exceeding fundamental value. At the time, it was not uncommon to link concerns about speculation and high prices to world hunger, food crises, and civil unrest. Naturally, this outcry resulted in numerous regulatory proposals to restrict speculation in commodity futures markets through transaction taxes, speculative position limits, and even the bizarre idea of a "virtual reserve" whereby a public agency would take futures positions opposite speculators. At the core, these assertions raised major economic questions about the efficiency of price discovery in commodity futures markets. Moreover, these so-called remedies did not come without a potential cost. Burdensome regulations would increase compliance and risk sharing costs across the global food system-lowering prices for producers and increasing costs to consumers. To guide this debate, a rigorous approach was needed to understand the dynamics between prices and commodity index activity. This book documents a curated selection of papers on the impact of index investment on commodity futures prices. The chronology of the papers roughly follows the timeline of our involvement in the world-wide debate about commodity speculation as it evolved after 2007. The 10 papers follow the evolving speculation debate with new author forwards highlighting the contribution and impact. Policy-makers, researchers, and market participants will find this not only as useful documentation of the debate; but, also a natural starting point when high commodity prices inevitably create the next speculation backlash.

The fifteen groundbreaking essays contained in this book address the concept of adaptation in relation to horror cinema. Adaptation is not only a key cultural practice and strategy for filmmakers, but it is also a theme of major importance within horror cinema as a hole. The history of the genre is full of adaptations that have drawn from fiction or folklore, or that have assumed the shape of remakes of pre-existing films. The horror genre itself also abounds with its own myriad transformations and transmutations. The essays within this volume engage with an impressive range of horror texts, from the earliest silent horror films by Thomas Edison and Jean Epstein through to important contemporary phenomena, such as the western appropriation of Japanese horror motifs. Classic works by Alfred Hitchcock, David Cronenberg and Abel Ferrara receive cutting-edge re-examination, as do unjustly neglected works by Mario Bava, Guillermo del Toro and Stan Brakhage.

First-Hand Stories initiated by the National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity. Scientists collected more than 200 interviews between 2014 and 2019 and today the project is still underway. Euromaidan, a dramatic period in the recent history of Ukraine, unfolds in the memories, impressions, and reflections of its participants. They share experiences of personal importance which left the biggest mark on them. According to the principles of oral history as a scientific method, the interviews are published with the preservation of the linguistic and stylistic features of the stories, only with minimal edits needed to facilitate reading.
