View Rights PortalAls der Neurowissenschaftler Maxwell Bennett und der Philosoph Peter Hacker den Klassiker Philosophical Foundations of Neuroscience veröffentlichten, war dies die erste systematische Untersuchung der begrifflichen Grundlagen der Neurowissenschaften und der Startschuss für den bis heute intensiv geführten Kampf um die Deutungsmacht über den menschlichen Geist. Besonders kritisch fiel seinerzeit die Auseinandersetzung mit den einflussreichen Arbeiten von Daniel Dennett und John Searle aus – also mit jenen beiden Denkern, die von der neurowissenschaftlichen Seite gerne als philosophische Gewährsmänner herangezogen werden. In Neurowissenschaft und Philosophie diskutieren die vier kongenialen »Streithähne« miteinander.
Ob Möbel, Plakate, Webseiten, Kleidung, Piktogramme, Autos oder städtische Räume: Design ist omnipräsent. Nur in der Philosophie hat es bislang (so gut wie) keine Beachtung gefunden. Daniel Martin Feige schließt diese Lücke, indem er eine Explikation von Grundbegriffen präsentiert, die mit dem Design verbunden sind, und Design als eine ästhetische Praxis eigenen Rechts ausweist. In der Praxis des Designs, so seine These, wird das Funktionieren selbst ästhetisch. Das Buch ist sowohl ein Beitrag zu einer Philosophie des Designs als auch eine Einführung in das philosophische Denken für Designerinnen sowie Designinteressierte.
Was ist Jazz? Wie unterscheidet er sich von anderen Arten von Musik? Und inwieweit handelt es sich bei ihm um einen besonders interessanten Gegenstand für das Nachdenken über ästhetische Fragen? Das vorliegende Buch stellt die erste philosophische Auseinandersetzung dar, die sich dem Jazz widmet. Daniel Martin Feige geht darin der Frage des Verhältnisses zwischen Jazz und europäischer Kunstmusik nach und untersucht den Zusammenhang zwischen Musiker und Tradition sowie zwischen Werk und Improvisation. Dabei lässt er sich von der originellen These leiten, dass erst im Jazz zentrale Aspekte musikalischer Praxis überhaupt explizit gemacht werden, die in der Tradition europäischer Kunstmusik implizit bleiben.
Anthropologische Fragen werden in der Philosophie wieder breit diskutiert, wobei neoaristotelische und neokantianische Ansätze dominieren. Daniel Martin Feige entwickelt in seinem neuen Buch einen alternativen Vorschlag, der die Frage nach dem Menschen aus der Perspektive der Hegel'schen Philosophie und der kritischen Theorie angeht. Der Mensch ist dasjenige Lebewesen, das sich zu dem macht, als was es sich versteht. Im Geiste Hegels wird damit die anthropologische Frage mit der Geschichtsphilosophie verbunden. Der Mensch zeigt sich so als ein Lebewesen, das durch Freiheit, Vernunft und Selbstbewusstsein charakterisiert ist – Grundbestimmungen, die in jeder historischen Epoche neu ausgehandelt werden müssen.
