The Candy Guild (2). The Lost Recipe

        by Tanja Voosen/ Viktoria Gavrilenko

Magical sweets and real miracles? Elina has experienced them both in Belony, and now she can hardly wait to dip deeper into the world of the candy crafters. But it’s not long before a new problem arises, because just before Robin’s first candy crafting examination, his magic tool goes bust. Old Mr Snotty knows where they can get help, and he takes Elina and her friends to Bittersweet Avenue. It quickly becomes clear, though, that not all candy crafters are well disposed towards “ungifted” people. There are also rumours about the return of the mysterious Otherwise Society, which has tried once before to bring down the mighty Candy Guild. When Mr Snotty suddenly disappears without a trace, it’s up to Elina, Charlie and Robin to follow the clues he has left behind for them. They soon realize that there is a reason for his disappearance, because the Otherwise Society is looking for something in particular – and Elina, Charlie and Robin have the key to this something in their hands…

        Cain

        by Volodymyr Yeshkilev

"It is our time that will decide the future of countries and dynasties to come" said the Cardinal Mazarini's spy to the young nobleman named Pavel Moshkovsky, who will later become the ruler of Ukraine under title of Hetman Teteria. And he was right - the middle of the XVII century started a New Age of European history and drew the apocalyptic outlines of the world in the twilight of which we now live. The dark silhouette of the Biblical figure from the Book of Genesis, who was the firstborn child of Adam and Eve and committed a great sin of killing thy own brother overshadows the last four centuries of the world’s history. Volodymyr Eshkilev dives deep into the secrets of the castles and their rulers in his historical novel "Cain", the second of the trilogy "Cursed Hetmans". The reader will recognise the characters from the author’s previous novel called “Union” and will meet many new historical figures who lived and work during the period called “Ruin”. During the “Ruin” the hetmanate of Teteria, one of the most stipulated and disgraced rulers of Ukraine, held power. Eshkilev offers his own unique and unexpected interpretation of this historical figure. The events of the novel take place in beautiful and artistic surroundings and reflect on political, diplomatic, and even occult affairs of the XVII century.

Stained glass and the Victorian Gothic revival

by Christopher Breward, Jim Cheshire, Bill Sherman

Stained glass reached the height of its popularity in the Victorian period. But how did it become so popular and who was involved in this remarkable revival? The enthusiasm for these often exquisite pieces of artwork spread from specialist groups of antiquarians and architects to a much wider section of the Victorian public. By looking at stained glass from the perspective of both glass-painter and patron, and by considering how stained glass was priced, bought and sold, this enlightening study traces the emergence of the market for stained glass in Victorian England. Thus it contains new insights into the Gothic Revival and the relationship between architecture and the decorative arts. Beautifully illustrated with colour plates and black and white illustrations, this book will be valuable to those interested in stained glass and the wider world of Victorian art.

        by Sandra Tamele
