The Escapists of J. Mullick Road

        by Usha Ananda Krishna

‘Usha Ananda Krishna has a sparkling way with language.’ In the aftermath of a bizarre confrontation with Kalol Mondal—a small-time hustler and Party goon—Pinaki Bose, a timid Bengali babu, bumbles into the ambit of the savagely brilliant architect, Biren Roy. Dazzled by Biren’s breadth of vision and utter contempt for the conventional, he commissions him to design a country house—committing the whole family’s savings to it. But Biren, paralyzed by his grand ideals and his passion for perfection, is slowly sinking into a drunken torpor. And Pinaki, ignorant of the Party’s involvement in all land deals, must endure not just Kalol Mondal’s ominous presence while buying his plot, but more worryingly, his infatuation with Pinaki’s young daughter. Set in the bleak Communist Calcutta of the 1980s, The Escapists of J. Mullick Road is a wry meditation on a fabled city in physical and moral decline. Usha Ananda Krishna’s subtly witty but compassionate take on the disparate lives that entwine over the building of a house is a tour de force of modern literary writing.

        Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Plants

by Vanitha Jain & P. Ananda Kumar

Nitrogen fertilizers are necessary to enhance agricultural production and to sustain food security. However, their inefficient use accrues from inherent limitations of the crop plants as well as the manner in which N fertilizers are formulated, applied and managed. The main aim of the book is to assess the various aspects of the fate of fertilizer N in context of the overall N inputs to agricultural systems, with a view to enhance the efficiency of nitrogen use and reduce the negative impacts on environment. The cross cutting issues relate to improvement in nitrogen use by emerging technologies (genetic enhancement, QTL mapping), meeting N needs by understanding its interactions with other nutrients, and mitigation of nitrogen losses caused by environmental factors and management practices. Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Plants develops links between basic and applied research and practical crop production by addressing a wide range of topics relating to nitrogen use efficiency, and to plant and crop responses to applications of nitrogen via fertilizers, including nitrogen acquisition and reduction, molecular approaches, nitrate induction and signaling; and nitrogen use under abiotic stresses. Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Plants is an invaluable classroom aid for academics working in plant physiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular breeding and agronomy, and an essential professional resource for researchers working in plant and crop systems as it provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary description of problems related to the efficient use of nitrogen in agriculture.

        Yogoda The Energization Exercises

Using the Power of Nature to Heal Body, Mind and Soul based on the teaching of Paramhansa Yogananda

        by Jayadev Jaerschky

The book "Yogoda" presents the Energization Exercises of Paramhansa Yogananda. It teaches to feel and control the energy flow (prana) in the body. When prana is increased and distributed evenly in the body, health is obtained. Prana (life force, energy) is the primary healer of our body. A positive and strong flow of energy also has a very positive impact on a psychological level, making us happier people. And on a spiritual level, the inner work with energy also opens up our consciousness to a subtler reality than solid matter. We develop spiritual consciousness. In other words, the Energization Exercises, also called Yogoda, have a notable effect on our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The book first offers a detailed explanation of what prana exactly is, and what its role is in our present society. It then teaches how to perceive energy, and how to practice the Energization Exercises correctly, as Yogananda taught them. They are, in fact, Yogananda's contribution to the world of yoga, and to the world of healing.

        Death - An Inside Story

A book for all those who shall die

        by Sadhguru

“Don’t be dead serious. Life is a brief sparkle, but you shall be dead for a very long time.” – Sadhguru   Death is a taboo in most societies in the world. But what if we have got this completely wrong? What if death was not the catastrophe it is made out to be but an essential aspect of life, rife with spiritual possibilities for transcendence? For the first time, someone is saying just that.   In this unique treatise-like exposition, Sadhguru dwells extensively upon his inner experience as he expounds on the more profound aspects of death that are rarely spoken about.   From a practical standpoint, he elaborates on what preparations one can make for one's death, how best we can assist someone who is dying and how we can continue to support their journey even after death.   Whether a believer or not, a devotee or an agnostic, an accomplished seeker or a simpleton, this is truly a book for all those who shall die!
